Veneto Palace Hotel

The building that houses Veneto Palace Hotel dates back to 1889, however, the hotel came into existence in 1962 and has since remained in the care of a single family, who run it to this day. Its interiors are romantic, with glossy tan floors, intricately decorated ceilings, and antique Italian furniture. Arches and exposed brick speak to the history of the building, while velour armchairs and loveseats and dark wooden furniture add luxe hints to the public spaces. The red-and-gold-carpeted hallways could use an update, though they’re not overly drab or dingy. Other common areas include the charming and cozy Atelier Cafe, with exposed brick walls, tiled floors, colorful tables, and a hodgepodge of chairs. Couples are the main clientele, though a number of families and business travelers stay here, too. 

Veneto Palace Hotel’s location is ideal for tourists. It’s a five-minute walk to Via Veneto, the most elegant and expensive shopping street in Rome. Another famous shopping street, Via dei Condotti, is a 23-minute walk away. The Trevi Fountain takes 19 minutes to reach on foot, while the Spanish Steps is 18 minutes away. The largest park in the city, Villa Borghese, is a seven-minute walk. The Colosseum and Vatican City are too far to walk, but both can be reached by public transportation in 15 minutes or 35 minutes, respectively. However, there’s a bus stop in front of the hotel and a metro stop that’s an 11-minute walk away. It’s a 45-minute drive to Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. 

The hotel has 70 rooms with classical and elegant decor, though the look might be too old-fashioned for some tastes, with gold accents, heavy drapes, elegant floral-printed bedding or decorative pieces, and antique Italian furniture. Intricate headboards, red or navy-blue accents, and gilded mirrors make for an upscale aristocratic vibe; however, some visible wear and tear to the furniture and reports of maintenance or cleanliness issues can take away from the romantic atmosphere. Standard amenities include minibars (stocked with non-alcoholic drinks and snacks), flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and safes, but no kettles or coffeemakers. Bathrooms have bidets and feature either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, and some have whirlpool tubs. Toiletries, and hairdryers are provided. 

Veneto Palace Hotel offers an American breakfast in the mornings that's included in most room rates. There’s also a bar that provides drinks of all kinds and a lovely 24-hour cafe -- Atelier Cafe -- that has coffee and pastries for sale. Atelier Cafe serves lunch during the week, but is closed during the weekend (and during parts of August for summer break). Meetings can be held in one of the two meeting rooms, and there's a public computer in the lobby. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, though there have been complaints of bad connections. Airport and train station transfers are available for a fee, and the hotel has an arrangement with a private garage for those willing to pay a hefty fee for parking.
