The Inn At The Spanish Steps

The Inn at The Spanish Steps is a former townhouse from the 18th century. It's said that author Hans Christian Anderson called this four-floor hotel his home, and the property is now listed as a national monument. This luxury hotel was designed in a classical style, including frescoes that have been nicely preserved, lovely parquet floors, and striped or floral wallpaper in the hallways that make for an elegant setting. The great location by the Spanish Steps and on the Via dei Condotti, which is lined with haute couture shops, also helps attract well-heeled tourists. However, being situated in a popular area means there are the inevitable crowds and street noises. Nonetheless, the ambience is romantic, especially from the rooftop terrace that's set with red umbrellas and tables, and has views of the 135 Spanish Steps and the Trinita dei Monti church. Note that the elevator only goes up to the third floor, so guests have to climb a few stairs to get to the terrace and breakfast lounge. Pets are also allowed here, which is a rarity in Rome.

For shoppers and tourists, it's hard to beat this location. The Spanish Steps and Trinita dei Monti church, which are in view from the hotel's rooftop terrace, are directly across the street. This hotel is right smack in the middle of Rome’s Campo Marzio district on the famous Via dei Condotti, which offers tons of designer shopping, including Bulgari, Gucci, Hermes, and Louis Vuitton in the immediate area. Cafes, bakeries, pizzerias, and restaurants surround the hotel. The Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon are within 10 to 15 minutes on foot. The Spagna metro station is a four-minute walk from the hotel, and provides easy access to many of Rome’s attractions. The Colosseum is a 30-minute bus ride from the hotel, and the Vatican is a 25-minute ride by bus. Limousine or private Mercedes Benz car transfers to Leonardo da Vinci International Airport are available for a fee and take 45 minutes. Ciampino Airport is a 40-minute car trip.

There are 24 rooms spread among the main building and other nearby buildings, which are referred to as the annex. The 24 rooms blends modern furnishings and preserved historic designs, featuring exposed wooden ceilings, rich fabrics, patterned wallpaper, and charming 18th-century frescoes. Those in the annex typically have more contemporary interiors. Standard amenities include tea-making facilities, two free water bottles, well-stocked minibars, safes, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Many also have bathrobes, slippers, and Nespresso coffeemakers. Marble bathrooms have ETRO toiletries, and either whirlpool tubs, walk-in showers, or shower/tub combos. There are a variety of room types, from apartments and suites that have kitchenettes to Executive Rooms with decorative fireplaces and French doors that lead onto balconies. Upgraded rooms overlook the Spanish Steps or Via dei Condotti from balconies or terraces. Top-floor suites, including the Penthouse Suite, offer panoramic views and two balconies. Family Rooms, which are interconnected rooms with two bathrooms, sleep up to four people. 

As this is a small hotel in an urban area, features are a bit limited due to space; but what's available is elegant and refined. Beautiful views of the Spanish Steps can be seen from the lovely rooftop terrace that has metal tables and chairs under umbrellas. Just inside is the fourth-floor cafe lounge, which has classic furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows. This is where a delicious and free buffet breakfast is set up, consisting of fruit, yogurt, Spanish omelets, breads, eggs, juice, and panini sandwiches; it can be taken inside or outside on the terrace. The lounge also serves cocktails, snacks, and afternoon tea. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property and there’s also an Internet corner with a printer on the fourth floor. Concierge service is available 24/7.
