Bottom Line

Housed in a building that dates to the 1890s, Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese is a luxury property on the edge of the Borghese Gardens near the Via Veneto's shops and restaurants. The 81 rooms, which include three suites with separate living rooms and terraces, are traditional with a slightly faded elegance, but they include flat-screen TVs, minibars, iPod docks, Bose sound systems, marble bathrooms with rainfall showerheads, and Hermes toiletries. A highlight is the rooftop restaurant and bar
with panoramic views of the city. The hotel also includes a business center, and a meeting room. Travelers might want to compare rates and amenities with the Boscolo Exedra, near the Museo Naxionale Romano, which has a spa, pool, and a few bars.

Scene

Luxury boutique hotel with Belle Epoque architecture attracting couples and families

Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese is housed in a 19th century building that embodies the elegance of the Belle Epoque. The lobby is bright with glossy checkered
floors, marble accents on walls and doorways, and a wooden front desk. There’s
a luxurious lounge with low lighting off the lobby decorated with gray marble
floors, royal purple armchairs, and large black-and-white photos of figures from Italy’s past. The marble stairways with wrought-iron railings have purple mood lighting. The restaurant and bar has an
elegant vibe, thanks to white-and-black chairs and it doesn’t hurt that the
outdoor terrace provides stunning views of the gardens surrounding Villa
Borghese. The hotel draws mostly couples, but families that do stay here can make use of the Sofitel's babysitting services.

Location

Near Villa Borghese, the Via Veneto, restaurants, and shopping

Sofitel Hotel Villa Borghese is an eight-minute walk from the Borghese Gardens and Piazza
Barberini. The Spanish Steps
are about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and the Trevi Fountain is a 13-minute walk. The immediate area is filled with restaurants and
shopping. Bus stops are within a three-minute walk, and the Barberini metro station is about a 10-minute walk. Leonardo da Vinci International
Airport is a 40-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Elegant rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, iPod docks, and marble bathrooms

The spacious and elegant
guest rooms are decked out in shades of tan, red, and gold. Though they're classically styled with an elegant vibe, the fabrics and furniture appear somewhat old fashioned and past their prime with dotted burgundy carpeting, burl-wood furniture, heavy drapes, and marble countertops. All rooms
are air-conditioned, and include minibars, flat-screen TVs, safes, Bose sound systems, iPod docks, and Wi-Fi, which is free only for a limited time for non-Sofitel members, and is sometimes slow. There’s no coffee- or tea-making
facilities, except in the Suites, which have Nespresso machines, as well
as separate living rooms and terraces. The lavish marble bathrooms have dark-green sinks, shower/tub combos, hairdryers, Hermes toiletries, and bidets

Features

Rooftop terrace restaurant and bar, breakfast, business center, and meeting room

Smaller than most Sofitel hotels, the Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese has fewer facilities -- there’s no
spa, gym, or pool on-site. La Terrasse Cuisine& Lounge is the hotel's Mediterranean restaurant and bar, which serves lunch
and dinner. Its rooftop location provides stunning views, though keep in mind that it's fairly pricey, and guests can take breakfast (included in some room rates) there. Room service is also available 24 hours. The hotel also has a modest business center consisting of a public computer with a printer, and a meeting room that can hold up to 36 people. Families can request babysitting and in-room childcare for a fee. Valet parking and airport transfers are available for a fee as well.
