The 42-room Romoli Hotel is in a residential area, right near Caffarella Park with its historic ruins -- the mid-range hotel is about a 20-minute drive from the city center. Rooms are spacious, and Triple and Quadruple Rooms have balconies with views of the park. The hotel also has a rooftop dining area, but the views don't dazzle, and the overall decor here is bland. The Romoli is within walking distance of the Furio Camillo metro station and MEA line, putting major tourist sights within a handful of metro stops. Prices here can actually be steeper than at some city center hotels, and guests who want to be closer to the city center might want to check out Hotel Camelia.
Scene
Renovated in 2005, plain decor
The Romoli was renovated in 2005, but it does not have a well-defined style -- it is somewhat impersonal and sterile, but the lobby surprises -- its built-in wooden desk and mailboxes, forest-green marble floors, and plush beige couches lend a warm feeling that breaks the monotony. Most of the guests here are tourists, looking to save money.
Location
In a residential area directly across from the Caffarella Park, within walking distance of the Furio Camillo metro station
The hotel is in a residential area outside the city center, with many schools, supermarkets, and shops nearby. It's close to the Appian Way and Caffarella Valley. Caffarella Park, which contains one of Rome’s historic roadways, ruins from historic settlements, and wildlife is on the same street. Furio Camillo metro station is within a 15-minute walk, and trains stop at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major and the Coloseum in 10- to 15-minutes. The boutique shopping areas, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo are within walking distance from the Barberini metro station, which is seven stops from the hotel. If crossing the Tiber River, there are multiple bridges and walkways along the north and south banks. Ciampino and Fiumicino Airports are both a 30-minute drive away.
Rooms
Undecorated and bland, some with balconies and views of Caffarella Park
Pale walls, taupe carpets, cherrywood furniture, and matching fabrics characterize the rooms. They all come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and work areas. The green-and-tan marble bathrooms have hairdryers and toiletries. Bathrooms in Single Rooms are small and have stand-in showers. Triple and Quadruple Rooms have balconies, and tubs, but the beds look as if they were squeezed into the room rather than strategically placed for aesthetic effect.
Features
Free parking, and available airport transfer
The Romoli offers free on-site parking, and airport transfers for a fee. There is a bar and dining area on the hotel’s top floor, but don't expect breathtaking views. A breakfast buffet of cheeses, breads, and cereals is included in some packages -- otherwise it comes with a fee. Parking and Wi-Fi are both free.
