From the outside, the three-and-a-half-pearl Rome Life Hotel looks nearly identical to the other standard buildings on a street between Monti and the business district near Via Nazionale. But inside, the hotel is surprisingly modern, with sleek black touches and high ceilings in the lounge overlooking the contemporary conference space behind the lobby. The 45 guest rooms are also stylish, with updated, chic decor and free minibars. The small rooftop terrace and bar set the hotel further apart from other standard properties in the area. While there are areas to lounge, the city beckons and many monuments like the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain are reachable in a 15-minute walk. For around the same rates, the nearby Rome Times Hotel offers similar amenities and rooms.
Scene
Stylish decor hotel hidden by a mostly bland facade
The Rome Life Hotel is a modern hotel hidden behind a simple facade. Inside, the style appeals to travelers with an eye for updated touches, like black arches and contemporary white leather club chairs. Snake plants stuck into trays of white pebbles add some color to the otherwise black-and-white space. There's also a lounge area behind the lobby with free coffee, as well as a sedate rooftop terrace for guests hoping to linger and relax. A large open conference area in the center of the hotel sometimes attracts business travelers, but for the most part guests are tourists who appreciate the glossy contemporary design with easy access to Rome’s more historic center nearby.
Location
Walkable to monuments, restaurants, shops and the train station in the Monti neighborhood
Set between the bohemian Monti neighborhood and the busy thoroughfare of Via Nazionale, Rome Life Hotel is close to restaurants, bars, and lots of shops. Near Rome’s historic center, the location is convenient to walk to major sites like the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain. For public transportation, buses run along Via Nazionale, and the Cavour metro stop is about a seven-minute walk away in Monti. Rome’s main Termini train station is a 15-minute walk or one metro stop away. Vatican City is across the Tiber River, about a 50-minute walk or 20-minute drive. Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is reachable in about 30 minutes by car.
Rooms
Sleek design and free minibars, but some less than private showers
Regardless of room type, the design at Rome Life Hotel is consistent with its use of neutral contemporary furniture and dark wood floors. King-size beds dominate the space, with specially designed end tables and desks rounding out the room. All rooms have large flat-screen TVs with international satellite channels, electronic safes, and air-conditioning The free minibar stocked with water and soda upon arrival is an added bonus, as are the in-room kettles with a good selection of teas, coffee, and herbal infusions. In some rooms, the bathrooms have barely-there frosted glass doors that are the only separation between the rainfall shower and the common area, which might make them best for solo travelers or couples. However, the toilets are located behind real doors. All bathrooms are stocked with Etro toiletries and have hairdryers. Most rooms have pleasant views of the neighborhood streets.
Features
Rooftop terrace for drinks and buffet breakfast, but no on-site restuarant
Rome Life Hotel has a large and popular breakfast buffet included in the room rates. If the cakes, pastries, meats, cheese, fresh bread, sausage, bacon, and scrambled eggs still feel too light, there is also an a la carte menu available for an extra charge. Aside from the design-conscious breakfast room, there is also a bar behind the lobby, overlooking the open meeting area. The conference space a floor below the front desk sometimes attracts business travelers for conferences, and also hosts cultural and fashion events. The rooftop has been converted into a lounge style bar in the open air. While the terrace is a nice bonus space to enjoy a drink outside, it only has a view of the taller neighboring buildings. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
