Pros
- Attractive, large (by European standards) rooms with exposed wooden beams, high ceilings, good natural light
- Clean, updated bathrooms have rain showerheads with excellent pressure
- Rooftop terrace with views of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica
- Fantastic location steps from Vatican City, surrounded by shops and trattorias
- Suites available with kitchenettes and large soaking tubs
- Wine bar and creperie
Bottom Line
If you're in town to see the Holy See, you can't do much better than the Relais Vatican View. It's located just meters away from the Vatican walls. The downside? It's about a 30-minute walk to the city center to see anything else -- and the closest metro is about 15 minutes away. As far as the hotel itself goes, the 15 rooms and suites are clean and relatively spacious with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. The bathrooms are also modern and sleek, with gray tile and rainfall showerheads. There isn't much in the way of amenities here (not even a restaurant, though there is a daily breakfast buffet), but the rooftop terrace with views of St. Peter's Basilica is a standout.

Location
Less than a block away from the Vatican
The Relais Vatican View has a prime location steps away from the walls of Vatican City. As you might expect of the Pope's neighborhood, it is very clean and very safe.
As one of the most popular tourists sites in the world, let alone Rome, staying in the area around Vatican City certainly has its perks. Known as the "Borgo," the area is clean and safe with plenty of restaurants, cafes and upscale shopping. The Pope holds public blessings on Wednesday mornings when he's in town, drawing heavy crowds to the area. Don't think twice about booking here if you're in town to see the Holy Father and take in the Sistine Chapel. However, there is very little to do at night, and access to Rome's other popular ancient monuments isn't exactly convenient.
