The Pinewood Hotel is a dated value hotel with a location considerably far from central Rome for tourists looking to explore, but perhaps a good match for anyone needing to stay near the Policlinico Gemelli hospital and university. There are bus stops in front of the hotel, but the historic center is not reached easily. A hotel since 1966, some spaces of this property were renovated during a change in ownership in 2003, but overall much of the hotel is dated with worn furniture. There is a nice outdoor terrace and simple breakfast room, where a buffet is served each morning. For leisure travelers, the Hotel NH Roma Villa Carpegna is a good option much closer to the historic center of Rome.
Scene
Dated value hotel
A hotel since 1966, the Pinewood Hotel is a dated property in need of renovation. Although new management took over in 2003, only select parts of the hotel were renovated. There is an open lobby with wood beam ceilings and marble floors. To the left of the reception there is lobby seating, which resembles an elegant living room. The rich red and gold fabric of the curtains is the same that upholsters the sofas. Beyond the lobby there is a lobby bar with wooden accents and chairs. A relaxing spot is provided with the outdoor terrace that offers views of the park. Overall the atmosphere is dated and lacking style, but still pleasant.
Location
Far outside the historic center of Rome
The location of the Pinewood Hotel is not as ideal for tourists as it
is for business travelers who need to be located near the Policlinico
Gemelli hospital and university. In an area northwest of Rome, across from the Pineto Regional Park, the hotel’s location is nice for quiet walks without
the bustle of people but far from the top visited sights of the city. Battistini
and Cornelia train stations are equidistant to the hotel and both approximately
15 minutes away on foot. From Cornelia station, guests are able to catch the MEA line.
This way, the Vatican is only two stops away at Valle Aurelia station. For the
historic sites, stopping off at Spagna station (five stops away) is the best
way to start exploring attractions, such as the Spanish Steps, on foot.
Rooms
Dated rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges
The no-frills rooms at the Pinewood Hotel are
decorated in warm colors and have carpeted floors. Each room includes a flat-screen
TV, mini-fridge, and air-conditioning; rooms with balconies are available upon request. Rooms are outdated with patterned bedspreads and some cosmetic issues. Some guests have also complained of mold and cigarette odors. Bathrooms are small and have standing showers; triple rooms have whirlpool tubs. Suites with separate living and
bedroom areas are also offered, though style is the same across room categories.
Features
Restaurant, lounge, outdoor terrace, and parking lot
The Pinewood Hotel has an outdoor parking lot, as
well as some wicker patio furniture set around the property. A free
breakfast buffet is served in the dining area and has coffees, teas, cereals,
cold meats and cheeses, and pastries. For a more relaxed scene, there is a
small but full bar beyond the lobby lounge with sofas and bar seating. Free Wi-Fi is
only available in the lobby; charges apply for in-room Wi-Fi.
