Pantheon Royal Suites is a
four-pearl boutique hotel with a stylish look and great location on the plaza of the Pantheon. Its 25 rooms feature sleek, monochromatic decor, flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines, and minibars; and some have terraces, hot tubs, and views of the Pantheon. Rooms can run small, but they're efficiently designed. Upscale hotel features include a small spa with a Turkish bath and a lovely courtyard, but there's no breakfast service or restaurant. Rates tip a bit high considering the limited amenities at this small boutique property; travelers might want to compare rates and amenities with The Britannia Hotel, which includes breakfast and has a bar.
Scene
Boutique hotel with an inner courtyard and small spa
Housed in a five-story
historic building on Pantheon Square, the Pantheon Royal Suite has a pale-blue and weathered facade. The hotel lacks any public spaces beyond a small
inner courtyard with a smattering of outdoor furniture, a couch, and two chairs.
The front desk, set along the narrow hallway at the entrance, isn’t staffed 24/7. Hallways are narrow but
feature art and photo exhibitions of Italian and international artists. Sleek marble steps lead to the rooms, and there's also a small elevator, which stops at most floors. Guests are overwhelmingly couples, likely drawn to the property for its location and lovely views of the Pantheon.
Location
Located on the Pantheon Square, near many attractions, restaurants, and shopping
Despite the Pantheon Royal
Suite’s superb location on Pantheon Square, many guests report difficulty
finding the hotel because it lacks any outdoor signs or indicators. Still,
it’s in a great location, with plenty of restaurants and shopping on surrounding streets. Piazza Navona is a five-minute walk from the hotel, the Trevi Fountain
is an eight-minute walk, and the Spanish Steps is a 13-minute walk. The Colosseum is about 15 minutes away on public transportation, and Vatican
City is a 25- to 28-minute trip. Note that there's a bus stop within a five-minute walk of the hotel. Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is a
33-minute drive away.
Rooms
Trendy rooms with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines, and minibars; some have hot tubs and terraces
The Pantheon Royal Suite's 25 sleek neutral-toned rooms are stylishly furnished, with white beds topped with gray velour bed runners, white tufted headboards, and
modern artwork on the walls. Unusual details -- such as round beds
in some rooms, clear Ghost chairs, and fluffy robes with black bows -- add to the elegant charm. Rooms tend to be small (not uncommon for Rome), though they maximize the space in interesting ways, such as with daybeds pushed
against the walls or suspended beds with stairs. Rooms come with air-conditioning,
flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines, and minibars with free
bottled water. Some rooms have hot tubs, access to a rooftop terrace with a hot
tub, or terraces with views of the inner courtyard. For the best views, request rooms that face the
Parthenon, though be aware that they might be noisy due to
the square's heavy traffic. Bathrooms are spotless, but lean on the
small side with bidets but little counter space and small showers (though they do have
rainfall showerheads). Molton Brown toiletries are provided. While most hotels now offer hairdryers, the Pantheon Royal Suite kicks it up a notch by providing flat irons too.
Features
On-site spa, small outdoor courtyard, and free Wi-Fi
Like many
boutique hotels, Pantheon Royal Suite is limited in space and therefore limited in
features. It does not serve breakfast, and has no restaurant or bar.
The highlight of the property is the spa, which offers a free Turkish
bath, along with massages and beauty treatments. There’s a small courtyard with
taupe-colored outdoor couches and armchairs, and an umbrella for shade. Airport
transfers, for a fee, can be arranged by the concierge. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, and there's a public computer for guests' use.
