Bottom Line

This 43-room, mid-century modern boutique hotel is sleek and upscale, with a gorgeous rooftop terrace with bar -- and a phenomenal location for tourists right by the Piazza Navona, within a five-minute walk of the Pantheon. Spacious, stylish rooms have black tile floors and free minibar item on the first day. There's no restaurant, but there's a big, free breakfast buffet as well as sundowner appetizers and cocktails at the rooftop bar. Nearby Hotel Lunetta has four pearls, a slightly higher price, fewer rooms, and more classically contemporary look; unlike Palazzo Navona, it has a spa, but it lacks the expansive rooftop terrace bar here.

Scene

A modern boutique hotel with a terrific location for tourists and a cool rooftop bar

Palazzo Navona Hotel's original building structure dates back to the late '70s. The building sat unused but prepped to become offices until it was finally renovated and then opened in 2015 as the stylish four-pearl hotel is it today. It's surrounded by rows of older-looking brick-faced buildings, and it's impossible to miss the smooth, neutral colors and contemporary look of the Palazzo Navona Hotel on the corner. The hotel's historic location is a stark contrast to the sleek and contemporary, mid-century modern design found inside the space. Guests who walk through the entrance are greeted by a stylish reception area with smooth and dark hardwood floors, LED-lit gold trim, and concrete-style walls. Throughout the hotel you'll find pristine vintage furniture, metal accents, and faux-leather cushions.

Location

In the heart of central, historic Rome, a five-minute walk from several major sights

Palazzo Navona Hotel is located in the historic center of Rome, within a five-minute walk of Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Campo de' Fiori, and Largo di Torre Argentina. It is a 10-minute walk to the Spanish Steps, while famous St. Peter's Basilica is a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk, and Piazza di Spagna can be reached in under 20 minutes on foot (or around a 13-minute drive). The immediate area of the hotel is full of shops, restaurants and bars, with grab-and-go gelato shops and pizza places all around. This is an ideal area for tourists, and it's specifically ideal for fans of historic and/or Baroque architecture. While there aren't usually many business travelers who stay here, the hotel is conveniently located near several public institutions and political areas of business interest. The hotel is across the road from several bus stops, and is nine stops on a single line from Termini Station. Fiumicino Airport is 35 minute's by car or 30-plus minutes by bus and express airport train service from Termini; Ciampino Airport is around 40 minutes by car.

Rooms

Spacious and stylish rooms with an updated mid-century modern look and minibars

All 42 of Palazza Navona Hotel's rooms exhibit sleek style: long black floor tiles with alternating gloss and matte finishes, white walls, black faux-leather headboards and bed bases, and modern dark oak-style furniture with slick black accents. The rooms' luxe bathrooms have large, neutral-tone or grey marble tiles, bidets, big rainfall showerheads and a hand-held shower nozzle, thick towels, and black countertop sinks with stainless steel accents. Classic Rooms are smallest and have pops of color only in the orange throw pillows on the bed, while bumping up to an Executive Room will get you more space, and a chic burnt orange chaise lounge. Additionally, Open Suites have hypo-allergenic mattresses, larger open-plan design, and slightly warmer decor. The suites are technically only one room, although there is a freestanding dividing wall between the sitting area and bed area.No matter which room you snag, you can expect a kettle and assortment of teas (free); a minibar stocked with water, juice, and soft drinks (free on the first day and only restocked upon request; subsequent items incur a fee); free Wi-Fi, 42-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and AC. It's good to note that bathrooms are separated only by frosted glass, which may pose privacy issues for some; in some room types, bathrooms are open and only the toilet area is cordoned off with frosted glass. Rooms typically have unattractive views; for a nice outlook over the city, head up to the rooftop. If you notify the hotel that you are traveling with kids, they will usually prepare a special gift and cookies for your arrival to the room.

Features

Gorgeous rooftop terrace bar and free breakfast buffet, though no on-site restaurant

While there is no full restaurant on-site, the hotel has a beautiful and stylish rooftop terrace and lounge. Furnished with modern, curved wicker seats and an outstanding panoramic view over the rooftops of Rome, the outdoor rooftop terrace's Wine Bar serves up Italian-inspired cocktails, has an extensive wine collection, and prepares appetizers for a few hours in the evening (sunset is an especially popular time). The hotel's breakfast area is stylish, but decor isn't as sleek as in the rest of the hotel. Guests serve themselves at a well-stocked buffet that includes items for those on vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets. Room service is also available for breakfast. The hotel staff can help with directions, reservations, and tickets. On request, the hotel has babysitting services, dry cleaning and laundry services, and airport transportation. A rather thoughtful feature of the hotel is offering surprise champagne and birthday cake for guests who haven't even reported a celebration. The hotel cleverly checks the birth date from guest passports in order to make it a real surprise. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and in all rooms and there is nearby parking available. There's also an elevator and rooms designed for guests with special mobility requirements.
