Bottom Line

The 46-room Montecarlo
Hotel is a mid-range, family-run property with an antique style that’s within a
10-minute walk of attractions, restaurants, public transportation, and shops. Charming
and vintage (though somewhat dated) rooms have minibars, flat-screen TVs with Sky TV, and air-conditioning, while some have big jetted showers and tubs, and rainfall showerheads.
However, rooms are dimly lit and many bathrooms lack counter space. The breakfast receives mostly good reviews, and both the lovely on-site bar and
concierge services are 24/7. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout, and there's a free
valet service to a nearby garage, but the street parking on-site costs extra.

Scene

A historic, mid-range hotel with plenty of antique charm

Located inside a lovely 19th
century building, the Montecarlo Hotel is a mid-range, family-run property with a friendly and welcoming
atmosphere. The lobby is filled with distinctive details, like crown molding and
potted plants surrounding the wood front desk. In the traditional, vintage breakfast
room, there’s charming checkerboard floors, vaulted ceilings, and tables covered in white tablecloths. Blue antique-style
furniture, yellow walls and drapes, and beautiful chandeliers adorn the lovely bar,
with wood stools and recessed lighting in the serving area. Overall this property has a historic elegance, but room decor feels a touch dated.

Location

In the historic district with many sights less than a 10-minute walk away

The Montecarlo Hotel is in
the historic district with the Rome Termini Train Station, public
transportation, the National Museum of Rome, and the Diocletian Bath less than a
10-minute walk away. Piazza della Repubblica, restaurants, and shops are also
less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel while Villa Borghese, the Spanish
Steps, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon are around a 10-minute drive. The Trevi
Fountain is around a 15-minute drive, while the Leonardo da Vinci International
Airport and the Ciampino Airport are a 30-minute drive, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Quaint and traditional rooms with marble bathrooms; some with rainfall showerheads

All rooms (ranging from Classic and Superior to Junior Suites) have a quaint, vintage design, though they can feel dated in places. Decor varies from blues to reds to tans, but most rooms have blue damask
wallpaper, blue or tan drapes, and blue patterned bedspreads. Light tile or herringbone
wood floors, crown molding, and a soundproofed design are in all room categories. Suites punch up the drama with beautiful murals on the walls, and Superior Rooms and Junior Suites have wonderful carved wood ceilings and additional DVD players. Flat-screen TVs with Sky TV are
mounted on the walls, and minibars with bottled water are stored inside
mid-tone wood furniture. Air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and free newspapers are standard. However, rooms lack sufficient lighting. Contemporary marble
bathrooms have neutral or green tile with white sinks attached to the walls, lacking counter space.
Most have walk-in showers, but some have jetted tubs and showers, plus rainfall
showerheads. Hairdryers and Montecarlo Hotel toiletries are provided while some
bathrooms also have heated towel racks.

Features

Continental breakfast plus 24-hour bar and free Wi-Fi

Espresso, croissants, pies,
hardboiled eggs, cereal, cheese, meats, and yogurt are served at the included
continental breakfast and receive mostly good reviews. Breakfast is included
with most room rates, but not all, and it's served in a nice space with checkerboard floors, vaulted ceilings, and the lovely addition of crisp white tablecloths. The 24/7 bar offers wine, cocktails, and beer in a refined space with chandeliers and blue upholstered furniture,
and 24-hour concierge services are provided in the lobby. Free Wi-Fi runs
throughout, and there is a free valet service. However, the valet service runs
to a nearby parking garage, and on-site parking is on the street and incurs and additional fee.
