Bottom Line

The 78-room Hotel San Remo
is a mid-range property in a historic building on a pretty, narrow street with many sights within a
15-minute walking radius. Basic rooms have just the essentials, including minibars, flat-screen
TVs, air-conditioning, and safes. Bathrooms are on the small side with shower/tub combos, but some have a bit of rust on the sinks. Breakfast is included and receives decent reviews, and there's a spacious lobby
bar with a selection of drinks. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. The decor though,
is a bit dated with cracks and chipped paint on the walls and worn, traditional furniture in the
common areas.

Scene

A traditional, mid-range hotel in a historic building with some dated decor

Housed in a building from the 1800s, the Hotel San Remo has a friendly atmosphere throughout. Green
floral couches, potted plants, and a traditional, somewhat dated, style decorate a small seating
area in the lobby, with classic art on the walls. A wood front desk and large
tray ceiling adds to the traditional feel in the entrance. In the breakfast
room, gray tile runs throughout with pink cushions on black chairs adding color.
Arched doorways, white tablecloths, and pinkish walls feel classic as well.
Wood armchairs with red cushions, small wood tables, and gray tile floors adorn
the lobby bar, which has a bar area and a flat-screen TV on a wood
table. However, most of the hotel feels a bit old with cracks in the walls, dated decor,
and chipped paint, though it offers good value for its location.

Location

Excellent central location with many sights less than a 15-minute walk away

The Hotel San Remo is in the
historic district on a quiet street with the Rome Opera House, public
transportation, Piazza della Repubblica, and the Basilica di Santa Maria
Maggiore within a five-minute walk away. The Rome Termini Train Station, Santa
Prassede, restaurants, shops, and bars are a 10-minute walk from the hotel
while the Colosseum is a 15-minute walk away. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and
Villa Borghese are around a 10-minute drive while the Ciampino Airport and
Leonardo da Vinci International Airport are about 30 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Basic rooms with efficient use of space, wood floors, and stone countertops in the bathrooms

Rooms at the Hotel San Remo are available in configurations ranging from Single through Quadruple/Family Rooms. Style is basic and all rooms use space efficiently with a luggage rack and seating area, hooks, and clothing drawers plus a closet. Green or red floral bedspreads, plain white walls, and light-wood floors cover
all rooms and there are purple or clear Ghost chairs for desk seating.
Flat-screen TVs rest on top of light-wood desks while minibars with bottled
water are stored inside. Air-conditioning and safes are also provided, but
there are no coffeemakers. White tile adorns the walls of the basic bathrooms, while
blue tile covers the floors. White stone countertops provide good counter
space, and there are hairdryers and toiletries as well. Some bathrooms are small,
though, with shower/tub combos. Additionally, some bathrooms sinks have
rust around them. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Features

Breakfast included plus on-site bar and free Wi-Fi

Breakfast is included in the room rates and
offers a buffet with cereal, cheeses, fruit, meats, breads, yogurt, and hardboiled eggs; guests give it decent reviews. It's served in a basic breakfast room with the nice addition of white tablecloths. Cocktails, wine, and beer are served at the spacious lobby bar, and there's
room service, but it has limited hours. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout the hotel
while the front desk and concierge services are 24/7.
