Scene

A 1920s palace turned cool, modern, upscale hotel

Classic on the outside and
contemporary on the inside, the Metropolis is a 1920s former palace with an urban style and a
welcoming atmosphere. A unique gear clock hangs on the wall in the lobby, which
has gray tile, recessed lighting, and purple and white leather seating. Free
newspapers are also available in the stylish area. The on-site restaurant, bar, and breakfast room has brick arches and vaulted ceilings, creating a modern yet intimate feel throughout. Wood wainscoting continues on all the walls of the
space while the wood bar area has large windows with lots of natural light and
yellow hanging light fixtures for color. All the common areas are decorated
with cool and funky artwork from a contemporary Roman artist.

Location

Slightly out of the way location in the Prati district; sights are around a 10-minute drive away

The Hotel Metropolis is in
the chaotic Prati neighborhood with public transportation, restaurants,
shops, and bars within a five-minute walk. The Vatican Museums are a 30-minute
walk away while Villa Borghese, Castel Sant’Angelo, and St. Peter’s Basilica
are around a five-minute drive. The Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon
are a 10-minute drive from the hotel, as are Piazza della Rotonda and Olympic
Stadium. The Trevi Fountain and Rome Termini Train Station are a 15-minute
drive from the hotel while the Ciampino Airport and Leonardo da Vinci
International Airport are about 30 minutes away by car. In short, this isn't the best area for tourists who want to reach popular sights on foot.

Rooms

Contemporary and sleek rooms with fantastic tile bathrooms; some have jetted tubs or rainfall showerheads

Several different types of
rooms are available, but all are soundproofed with streamlined design in a color palette of dark grays, blues, and white. Navy carpet and gray bedspreads tie to mid-tone wood furniture
and white couches or desk chairs. Recessed lighting is built into the headboards and there is
contemporary desert plant art on the walls. Flat-screen TVs with Sky TV hang on
the walls and under the wood desks there are minibars with drinks and snacks. Air-conditioning and free newspapers are also offered. Some Junior Suites have beautiful
wood beams and skylights while Executive Rooms have large jetted tubs with showerheads, meeting rooms,
bars, slippers, and bathrobes. Iridescent, metal-looking tiles adorn the
stylish bathrooms with white square sinks sitting on mid-tone wood vanities. Bathrooms typically have walk-in rainfall showers or shower/tub combos, bidets, heated towel racks, and hairdryers. Hotel Metropolis and/or L’Occitane toiletries are
provided. However, some rooms have small showers and all bathrooms lack
counter space. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Features

On-site restaurant and bar plus included breakfast and free Wi-Fi

International cuisine is
served for lunch and dinner at the on-site The City Bar Restaurant, and there
is an attached bar with cocktails and beer. The space is particularly attractive with vaulted brick ceilings. Breakfast is included as well with
pastries, coffee, meats, fruit, cheeses, yogurt, eggs, bacon, and cakes. All
food receives good reviews. A computer on a small wood desk in an office area
comprises the business center and both the concierge services and front desk
are 24-hour. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout, but there is a daily fee for on-site
parking and a fee for airport or train station transportation.
