It's an ideal pick for tourists, as the Spanish Steps are within a five-minute walk, and there's shops and restaurants in every direction. Unlike many central Rome hotels, this one does classic the right way, meaning its's sharp and sleek rather than stuffy and dated. Features include underground
parking, a lobby bar, free breakfast, and a reading room. The rooms are compact, but quiet and elegant, and include minibars, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs. Unfortunately, Wi-Fi is only free in the lobby. Those wanting a hotel with a restaurant and fitness
center should check out the nearby Ambasciatori Palace Hotel instead, which has lower rates but less style.
Scene
Smart hotel in a historic, city-center property with classic interiors
Set in a 19th-century mansion, the Hotel dei Borgognoni is doing a lot of things right. It stays true to its boutique ethos with an intimate vibe, and while many of its competitors opt for fusty or outdated takes on traditional decor, interiors here are sharp, sleek, and classic. The hotel has a spacious
and bright lobby with beautiful polished wooden parquet floor in some areas, and
cream marble flooring in others -- the look is understated, and given a modern touch by the chic dark hues used to offset the lighter tones. There are potted plants and vases of fresh
flowers dotted around, and various seating areas sectioned off with screens.
There’s also a bar in the lobby, which has a cozy atmosphere thanks to the
deep red leather furniture. Pets are welcome at the property, and it's popular
with business travelers as well as tourists.
Location
Center of Rome, a short walk from many top attractions and restaurants
Set
on Via del Bufalo, the hotel is in a fantastic location for tourists, as it's a
short walk from many of Rome's top attractions. The Trevi Fountain is a
three-minute walk, the Spanish Steps and the Zuccari Palace are both a
five-minute walk, and the Colosseum is a 20-minute walk. There are a whole host of cafes, restaurants, bars, and shops in the neighborhood, and it's a bustling and popular area with tourists. It’s also easy to get
farther afield as the hotel is just a five-minute walk from either the Spagna or Barberini Metro
stations. Expect it to take about 30 minutes to reach locales like the Vatican City or the Pigneto area, which is packed with nightlife -- both metro trips will involve some walking as well. Rome's Termini Station -- the city's main train station -- is less than 10 minutes away by metro, and from there trips to Leonardo da Vinci International
Airport will take about an hour. Alternatively, it's a 40-minute drive to the airport.
Rooms
Elegant and sophisticated rooms with views over the street or courtyard
The hotel’s 51 guest rooms are quiet, and overlook either the narrow,
cobbled street outside, or the hotel's courtyard. Single, Double, and Triple
rooms are available, and some have access to a private terrace. Rooms are stylish and elegant, and have a neutral color scheme punctuated by accents of the property's signature deep
red in velvet armchairs and throw pillows. Delicate paintings of the local area
adorn the walls. Furniture is modern and sharp, done in an ashy hue with clean lines -- it complements the subtly striped walls nicely and helps create a look that, like the hotel's common areas, is classic and updated at the same time. Rooms are on the small
side, although this is common in Rome. Every room has a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a minibar, tea- and coffee-making facilities, a safe, robes and slippers, and a desk. Surprisingly for a hotel in this category, Wi-Fi is not free in guest rooms. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos and elegant marble floors and walls. They include bidets and have a decent amount of counter space around sinks. A nice selection of toiletries plus hairdryers are provided.
Features
Lobby bar and free breakfast, free bike rentals, and underground parking
The hotel’s lobby bar offers a range of beers, wines, and spirits.
Guests can sit at bar stools, or on the large, button-backed, cherry red leather
sofa opposite the bar. Guests can also take drinks onto the terrace, which is
open in the summer months. There is a small breakfast room where a free
continental buffet is available each day (upgrades to a full breakfast with hot dishes are available for a fee). The hotel also offers two meeting
rooms and a reading room with deep red velvet seating and a large dark wooden
bookcase stretching across the width of one wall. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby,
and free bike rental is also available from the hotel for those wanting to
explore the city on two wheels. There is also a secure, underground car park at
the property, which is a rarity in central Rome.
