Overview

Pros
  • Free, reliable Wi-Fi

  • Attentive staff

  • Free al la carte breakfast delivered to rooms

  • Within walking distance of Termini railway station

Cons
  • Difficult to find

  • Three flights of stairs to climb -- no elevator

  • No common areas

Bottom Line

The seven-room Hotel De Monti is a
no-frills, seven-room budget hotel located in the quaintly shabby but central Rione Monti District near Termini Station. It's not easy to find, and no
elevator means climbing three flights of stairs. Rooms, however, are clean and
comfortable, with good Wi-Fi reception and brightly tiled bathrooms with modern fixtures. The pre-ordered a la carte breakfast is free and
delivered to guests' rooms, an unusual touch in the budget category. The staff is friendly and attentive, and rates are
low, but travelers might also want to check out the more modern (and similarly priced) SuiteDreams Hotel nearby.

Scene

Super-simple accommodations with friendly welcome on the third floor of a 16th-century building

Lacking even a
sign on its door, the Hotel De
Monti can be tough to find. Set in a 16th-century building, it has an imposing wooden doorway with an ornately carved, weather-worn stone frame that's surrounded by flaking stucco. A marble staircase leads to the third
floor of the building, where the hotel is located. The reception area is tiny -- it's little more than a
room and a desk, and hallways are white and beige and unadorned. Opened in 2011, the
hotel has seven rooms and no common areas, making the vibe more bed and breakfast than hotel.

Location

Centrally located in the quaintly shabby Rione Monti District close to the Basilica of Santa Maria

The hotel is
located on a picturesque and quaintly shabby stretch of road in central Rome in
the old Rione Monti District. There are plenty of pretty narrow streets full of
clubs, bars, and restaurants, and the area has become a popular spot for nightlife, and as a neighborhood for artists. The beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria is less than five minutes' walk
away, while other tourist attractions, such as the Pantheon and Spanish Steps, are about a mile from the hotel. Termini railway station, which connects to Fiumicino Airport in about 25 minutes, is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms

Clean, comfortable, simple rooms with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi

The hotel has only seven rooms, all of which are small and sparsely decorated with
traditional wooden furnishings, plain white walls, and the odd floral flourish.
Rooms are small  but clean, and while the well-maintained bathrooms have hairdryers and toiletries, guests have complained about the lack of towel rails. Rooms are air-conditioned and come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and
double-glazed windows that look over the pretty street.

Features

Excellent a la carte breakfast delivered to rooms

The Hotel De
Monti, like other hotels in the budget category, has little in the way of on-site facilities, though it makes a special effort with the free breakfast, which is ordered a day in advance and delivered to the
rooms at a prearranged time. Fast, reliable Wi-Fi is also available free of charge, and the staff is attentive and helpful.
