Some rooms have dated decor
The 34-room Hotel Castle is a budget hotel that offers a number of
amenities. There’s a beautiful outdoor pool open in the summer, a free breakfast served each day, and a 24-hour bar. Though it's located extremely far from the city center, the property provides train station transfers twice a day. Rooms, like the public areas, have a basic and sometimes dated style. Special touches like minibars, flat-screen TVs, and sometimes a whirlpool tub, provide a homey feel. As an alternative, Hotel Giuliana might be more appealing for those who want to be within walking distance to Rome’s
Scene
Plain budget hotel attracting vacationing couples
Hotel Castle is a dated, bare-bones budget hotel in a nondescript building surrounded by an ample parking lot. The interior is made up of narrow tiled hallways with tan walls that are punctuated with prints of Roman attractions like the Colosseum and a colorful wall mural of the sea. Dried floral arrangements look more fussy than fresh. The small breakfast room is set with a number of tables with green tablecloths and green chairs. Take note that the hotel lacks an elevator, which may not be ideal for those with mobility issues or those with heavy bags. The hotel caters to those looking for reasonable rates rather than a good location, which tends to be vacationing couples.
Location
Right off the A90 highway, but far from the city center and restaurants
Hotel Castle is located off the A90, far from Rome's city center. There aren't any restaurants or attractions within walking distance, but that makes for a peaceful, low-key environment. It’s a 10-minute walk to the River Tiber. Porta di Roma & Country Club golf course takes 10 minutes by car to reach. For tourists looking to explore the city center, the hotel provides a free one-way shuttle to the Saxa Rubra train station in the mornings during the low season, while during the high season, it provides a free shuttle to and from the Labaro Station in the
mornings and evenings. A train ride into the city takes about 45 minutes. It’s a 28-minute drive to the Leonardo da Vinci International
Rooms
Dated rooms with flat-screen TVs and minibars; some have terraces or whirlpool tubs
The rooms at Hotel Castle are basic, but they are spacious. Each room varies in color schemes and decor: Standard Rooms are far more dated than Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites, and Suites. However, they're all outfitted with tiled floors, a kitschy nature photo above the bed, and blond-wood furniture. Standard Rooms try to maximize their space with Murphy bunk beds. The rooms come standard with air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars, though they lack coffee- and tea-making facilities. Some rooms have large terraces, but no outdoor furniture. Like the rooms, bathrooms vary in style, but often come with small showers, bidets, simple toiletries, and hairdryers. Suites have one or two-person whirlpool tubs. During our visit, our room smelled of smoke and other pungent odors, and we noticed some noise from road traffic due to the proximity to the
highway.
