The 40-room Hotel Caprice is a solid mid-range option for tourists on a budget. The rooms are unpretentious with generic, underwhelming decor and cramped bathrooms, but they are clean and functional for this price range. The public areas of the hotel, such as the tiny, windowless breakfast room, aren’t a draw. But the location, steps from Via Veneto and near some of Rome’s most popular tourist destinations, is one of the property’s best assets.
Scene
A functional mid-range hotel with little on-site but a location steps from some of Rome's most picturesque streets
The Hotel Caprice’s immediate surroundings add more to the property's ambiance than what guests will find in actual hotel itself. Besides a simple, unassuming lobby with sparsely spaced chairs and a cramped, windowless breakfast room, there is little public space for guests. The terraces in some of the larger Superior Rooms have charming views of the city, and the location steps from the Via Veneto is what makes the hotel worthy of consideration.
Location
On a safe side street adjacent to a strip club, but within walking distance of popular Roman tourist sights
Despite the fact that it’s located next to a strip club, for tourists on a budget, it’s hard to beat the Hotel Caprice’s location: it’s within walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Via Veneto (famously featured in Fellini’s La Dolce Vita), Villa Borghese, Piazza Barberini, and the Trevi Fountain. Business travelers may want to be wary, though, as it’s less accessible to Rome’s commercial and financial districts.
Rooms
Clean, generic, and modern rooms are no-frills but functional, despite their cramped bathrooms
While rooms may not be unique or charming, they’re definitely in decent shape after a renovation in 2012. The purple pops of color add a bit of character, but no one will be floored by the standard IKEA-esque furniture that's so common among European mid-range and value hotels, and the cramped bathrooms with door-less showers are a major low point. Still, overall the rooms are clean, functionally sound, and offer solid value for this price range. Anyone looking to upgrade might want to consider a Superior Room, which have a more natural light and some terraces overlooking the rooftops.
Features
A no-frills hotel with few features
The Hotel Caprice offers few features. The above-average free breakfast spread and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel are the main highlights. There is an elevator, but it's slow and small.
