The Hotel Alexandra, a short-walk from many of Rome's most famous attractions, including the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, is a solid choice in the mid-range category. The 58 rooms range from Singles to Suites, and some have been updated to match the ultramodern interiors of the lobby. A free breakfast includes gluten-free options, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. The Alexandra does not have a fitness center, but it has arranged for guests to use a nearby gym.
Scene
The Alexandra is housed in an older building with a starkly modern interior
The Alexandra combines classical elegance with stark, modern decor. While it's housed in an older building, the interior has stark-white walls accented by gray and purple chairs and couches, framed by touches of dark-brown wood. The breakfast room, with pastel-green chairs and an atrium-style roof with geometric stained glass windows, offers a bit of retro. The hotel attracts both leisure and business travelers -- there's two computer stations with printers in the lobby -- who appreciate the value it offers in such a central location.
Location
Centrally located hotel near the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain
The Hotel Alexandra is located in central Rome, a neighborhood immortalized in Fellini's "La Dolce Vita." Packed with luxury shops, restaurants, and sights, the area is popular with tourists. The Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps are about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and the Barberini metro station, which connects to the Roma Termini Railway Station, is within a five-minute walk. Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is within a half-hour's drive, depending on the traffic, or can be reached in about an hour on public transportation.
Rooms
Clean, simple rooms and suites; some have been updated
The 58 rooms at the Alexandra range from small Single Rooms with private bathrooms to sprawling suites with pull-out beds, desks, and bathrooms with bathtubs. All rooms come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, and bathrooms have bidets. Some of the rooms have been renovated to match the purple and gray interior of the lobby, while others, with dangling glass nightstand lamps, framed pictures of flowers, wall moldings, and ceiling chandeliers, have stayed traditional. Rooms that face the alley don't get much light, and guests should keep that in mind when reserving. While past guests have complained about noise traveling between rooms, they do give the Alexandra high marks for cleanliness.
Features
Free Wi-Fi and breakfast with gluten-free options
The free Wi-Fi, the gluten-free daily breakfast, the minibars, and the lobby computers with printers are the main extras here. A 24-hour concierge service is also available, and while there's no fitness center, the Alexandra has an arrangement with a nearby gym. There's a 24-hour parking garage (for a fee), and car, bike, and scooter rentals, as well as airport transfers, available.
