Complaints about breakfast quality and restaurant service
Grand Hotel Tiberio is a modern mid-range property with 91 guest rooms and an array of leisure features. Rooms vary in size, but all feature pleasant (if a bit boring) contemporary decor and a good selection of amenities, including flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and kettles. Some of the hotel's public spaces are a bit dated, but they include a small pool, bar and restaurant (serving free breakfast), a fitness room, and plenty of outdoor spaces to relax in. The biggest drawback is the location, which is a 20- to 30-minute drive to the city center -- though the hotel does provide a free shuttle to and from Vatican City and the downtown area during the week. For something closer to tourist sites, check out Fragrance Hotel St. Peter, which is within walking distance of Vatican City, but it doesn't offer as many features.
Scene
Contemporary hotel with an uneven mix of elegant, modern, and tired spaces
Grand Hotel Tiberio is a mid-range property with a peach exterior and contemporary interiors that are mostly well-kept, but a bit tired in some places. Details like wood-paneled walls and columns, vintage blue leather couches, and retro Vespas on display give the lobby an old-fashioned sort of elegance. The restaurant aims for upscale with white tablecloths and high-backed black leather chairs, and yet, it’s the veranda that the lobby bar services that’s the most charming and chic space. A stone wall, wooden deck, white tables and chairs, and airy design makes for a lovely place for guests to gather. There are a few more outdoor spaces here, including a spacious covered rooftop terrace with comfortable seating and an outdoor garden area with shaded seats, a small pool, and a green lawn peppered with trees and bushes. Couples and families make up the majority of the clientele here, and can be seen relaxing in one of the public spaces.
Location
Far from the city center, but within walking distance of restaurants and public transportation
The hotel is removed from Rome's center, situated in a quiet residential neighborhood about a 20-minute walk to Vatican City. There are some restaurants and bars on surrounding streets, but the major tourist attractions are a 20- to 30-minute drive away, or at least a half-hour by public transit. The hotel provides a free shuttle service during the week that takes travelers to and from the downtown area and Vatican City (service is not available on Sundays). The nearest train and bus stops are a four-minute walk from the property, while the nearest metro station is 13 minutes away on foot. It’s a 35-minute drive to Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, or about an hour by public transit, while Ciampino Airport is 35 minutes to an hour by car (depending on traffic), or an hour and 40 minutes by public transportation.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, minibars, and kettles
Rooms feature pleasant contemporary decor -- if a bit bland and standard -- with white walls, tan carpets or wooden floors, white bed linens topped with navy blue pillows, and medium-toned wooden furniture. The one fashionable flourish is the long abstract canvases above beds splashed with blue or yellow strokes. Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and kettles. Standard Rooms have small bathrooms, but they’re fairly charming with blue and white tiles (some in a jaunty Greek-key pattern). They're outfitted with showers (these can be cramped) or shower/tub combos, as well as bidets, toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Well-rounded amenities including an outdoor pool, fitness room, restaurant and bar, and business facilities
The hotel offers a lengthy list of amenities for its pearl level, including an outdoor pool. Though it's a bit small, it's nice for a quick dip on a hot summer day. The fitness room is outfitted with slightly dated cardio equipment and free weights, plus it has a sauna. The hotel's restaurant, La Terrazze di Tiberior, offers regional dishes for lunch and dinner and a free breakfast in the morning -- however, there have been varying reports of breakfast quality and restaurant service. The Tiberio Lounge Bar offers espresso in the mornings and several cocktails and drinks in the afternoons and evenings. It also services a lovely veranda with cozy seating. There are three fully equipped meeting rooms on-site, though they're starting to show their age. Audiovisual equipment is provided, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the property. The business center offers two desktops and a printer that can be used for a fee. Outdoor parking is free, while secure parking incurs charges. Pets are welcome for a fee.
