The Colors
Hotel is a friendly two-pearl property occupying a historic building near Vatican
City. Its 20 rooms are simple, with colorful decor, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free bottled
water. Not all rooms have private bathrooms, however -- some have external shared
bathrooms. Though amenities are limited to breakfast (for a fee), free
Wi-Fi, and a rooftop terrace, the hotel's central location, within walking distance of several major attractions, is hard to beat. Travelers might also want to
compare rates with the nearby Capricci Romani B&B, which has private bathrooms in all rooms and offers a free daily breakfast.
Scene
Value hotel with bright decor attracting budget travelers
Colors Hotel
is housed in a historic stone building and has a slight hostel vibe thanks to bright interior decor and some shared bathrooms -- though without the usual wear
and tear that comes with backpacking clientele. Bright orange walls and a leather
loveseat decorate the small lobby, which has a small wooden front desk and a flat-screen TV. The hallways are bright, with aqua doors, red
window accents, and abstract artwork contrasted by white walls. Guests should note that there’s no elevator, only white marble
stairs. The rooftop terrace
bar is small but lovely, with tiled tables, iron chairs, and views over surrounding Roman buildings. This small hotel mainly draws tourists on a budget, including families, who value the convenient location and attractive rates.
Location
Close to Vatican City, and within walking distance of some major attractions
The hotel is located in
the Prati district, a busy area that’s close to many of Rome’s
popular attractions. Vatican City and its Basilica of Saint Peter is an
11-minute walk away, while Castel Sant’Angelo takes nine minutes to
reach. Guests who want to explore the city on foot can reach the Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and the Spanish Steps in about 20 to 25 minutes on foot. The Colosseum and Trevi Fountain
may be too far to reach on foot for some, making the hotel’s proximity to public
transportation appealing. There’s multiple bus stops just two minutes away
and a metro station that's a nine-minute walk from the hotel. Restaurants and shops
abound on surrounding streets, while the popular shopping avenue of Via Cola
di Rienzo is two blocks away. Leonardo da Vinci International Airport
is a 35-minute drive away, or about an hour by public transportation.
Rooms
Simple, colorful rooms with mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs; some bathrooms are shared
Colors Hotel has 20
air-conditioned rooms, ranging in size from Single to Quad Rooms. Some of the Single,
Double, and Triple rooms don’t have private bathrooms, but instead have shared
bathrooms in the hallways. The rooms have simple decor with hardwood floors, a hodgepodge of basic streamlined furniture (some of which are a little
dated), and colorful abstract artwork on the walls. Some of the rooms have floral wall
moldings that are quite elegant, contrasting the basic style. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, free bottled water (stocked
daily), safes, and flat-screen TVs with Sky channels. Bathrooms vary in color
and some are more dated than others. They include small showers, hairdryers,
and free basic toiletries such as bars of soap and small packets of shampoo. Note that there have been some
complaints about bothersome noise from the street and other rooms.
Features
Breakfast, rooftop terrace, free Wi-Fi, and a public computer
This simple hotel offers few features as is typical for budget properties in Rome. There’s a breakfast buffet in the mornings, though it costs
a fee, served in the small (and sometimes crowded) breakfast room or on
the rooftop terrace, which has iron cafe chairs, mosaic tables, and decent
views. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and there’s a public computer available for guests' use. There’s no on-site parking.
