Bottom Line

Camping Fabulous is a campsite in a pine forest with 100 bungalows and mobile homes about an hour's drive from Rome. Guests can bring their own tent or choose one of the bungalows or mobile homes with air-conditioning, private bathrooms, and lovely shaded patios. There are two huge pools and mini-golf, a playground, and tennis to keep the kids entertained. The on-site restaurants, bars, and ice cream parlor offer good value, but the campsite can have the chaotic atmosphere of an all-kids summer camp.

Scene

Fun, bustling campsite with modern amenities

This expansive, manicured campsite is clean and well maintained. Tall trees span the campus, immersing guests in a well-shaded nature escape. The bungalows and mobile homes are arranged in organized sections on spacious grounds. A popular destination for families with children, there is definitely a lively atmosphere -- the site can tend to be busy and loud, so this may not be ideal for those looking for a serene getaway. The various facilities are surprisingly more modern and sleek than you would expect from a campsite. The Favoloso bar and restaurant building is eclectic, with dark brown accents, vintage Italian images on the wall, and exotic decor, such as two giant elephant statues and vases of giant bamboo shoots. The grounds surrounding the various facilities are full of neatly trimmed hedges and organized gardens.

Location

Secluded campground outside Rome

Located an hour's drive outside of the city center of Rome and just 20 minutes from Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport, Camping Fabulous is on a somewhat remote piece of land surrounded by a large, wooded area. There isn't anywhere to go within walking distance, but luckily there are enough facilities on the campgrounds for food or supplies. Should guests have a car, there are many nearby places to go for a day trip, including nearby beaches (1-hour drive), the Parco dei Medici golf course (13-minute drive), the Hydromania water park (13-minute drive), and the Euroma2 shopping mall (10-minute drive).

Rooms

Clean, small rooms with just the bare-necessities

The campsite offers various bungalows and mobile homes, which are simple and clean. Rooms are compact, fitting only small cots and a tiny storage space. Some of the master bedrooms feature a larger, double bed, a narrow closet and a vanity counter with a mirror and stool. Bathrooms are tiny with only a toilet, sink, and shower -- no bidet or hair dryer, which are commonly found at Italian hotels. Decor is minimal, with hardwood floors, white walls, and colorful bedding. The mobile homes include a kitchen with a stovetop, fridge, sink, microwave, and dining table with booth seating. They also have large decks that span the entire length of the home and have outdoor furniture. If guests decide not to stay in one of the mobile homes or bungalows, there is also an area for those who bring their own tent.

Features

Multiple pools, plenty of kid-friendly activities, and a variety of dining options

With one large adult pool, a lagoon-shaped kids pool with two slides and a nonstick floor, and two small whirlpools, the pool area is the most popular attraction of the campground. An ideal place for families, Camping Fabulous provides various kids-centric activities such as a playground, mini ropes course, and even a small bungee jumping ride. They also have a kids club and mini disco with activities during the day and evening. Adults can get in on the fun too by playing a game on the tennis and volleyball courts, shooting a game of pool, or watching a movie on the indoor projector. Guests can dine at one of the various restaurants, bars, or even enjoy some delicious gelato at the Gelateria. There is also a mid-sized market that has a variety of food and wine.
