Room decor is dated
The 192-room Best Western Hotel President has a modern, renovated lobby and clean rooms with updated bathrooms, but room decor is bland and dated. There’s a large buffet breakfast and the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the Colosseum and Termini Station, with a metro station just outside. Rates are fair, and possible even a real bargain, given the central location but the hotel lacks atmosphere.
Scene
Generic chain hotel
The Best Western Hotel President has a newly renovated lobby and bar with a contemporary atmosphere. The light-colored wood paneling and furniture, some of it funky and geometric, is accented with soft gray couches and chairs. The restaurant is much more classic looking, with hardwood floors and a stained-glass panel on the ceiling. The rooms are not as fresh as the common spaces of the hotel and guests note that overall, this hotel lacks atmosphere.
Location
Close to the Colosseum, with a metro stop right outside
The Hotel President is located in the city center, between the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, in a neighborhood filled with shops and restaurants. It’s convenient for visiting most tourist attractions, in particular the Colosseum, which is a 15- to 20-minute walk away. The Manzoni metro stop is right outside, and it’s two stops from Termini Station.
Rooms
Dated decor with striking modern bathrooms
The 192 air-conditioned rooms are large and clean, but decor is dated. Linens are white and fresh, but dusky rose-colored upholstery and bedskirts along with wood paneling on the walls suggest age. Standard guest bathrooms are renovated and much more attractive. They have large glass-doored shower/tub combos, while the junior suites have large stalls with rainwater shower heads. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with pay-per-view channels, minibars, safes, and hairdryers. Tea kettles and supplies have to be requested.
Features
Big buffet breakfast, bar, and meeting rooms
The large restaurant offers a varied buffet breakfast included in the room rate, and it also serves pizza, pastas, and main dishes in the evening. There’s a newly-renovated bar area and an internet corner with two computers and a large printer and meeting rooms. Parking is available for a fee, along with laundry and ironing services.
