Bottom Line

Located in central Rome just
a few minutes' walk from the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo, the Adriatic Hotel is a 42-room, budget property offering clean and comfortable guest rooms, some with
balconies. Its large rooftop terrace gives a popular place for guests to relax and
enjoy the street views. But apart from luggage storage and concierge service, there are few amenities or services on offer here. A free Wi-Fi connection is
only available in public areas. And there's no
breakfast service or on-site restaurant, though there are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. Rates are hard to beat for a central-Rome property, but travelers looking for more features may prefer the budget-friendly and hipper Hotel Adriano, which
has a lobby bar, free Wi-Fi throughout, and breakfast service.

Scene

Value hotel popular with budget travelers and visitors to the Vatican

The Hotel Adriano is located on a busy street in the
center of Rome in a popular tourist area. The hotel occupies a floor of a
residential building and shares its elevator with the building’s residents. The
austere reception area is made up of a large room with soft pink walls and a tiled
floor, and it's dominated by a check-in desk. Apart from a faux-leather sofa
and a public phone, it is sparsely furnished with a mirror and a few framed
prints of the city’s monuments decorating the walls. Most of the guests staying
here are couples on a budget visiting Rome as tourists. The hotel’s
proximity to St. Peter’s also attracts many pilgrims visiting the Vatican City.

Location

In central Rome, just a few minutes' walk from the Vatican

The Adriatic Hotel is situated
in the center of Rome, just a seven-minute walk away from the Vatican, and six
minutes on foot to Castel Sant'Angelo. This makes it perfectly located for
sightseers or visitors to the Vatican. The area also has excellent
transportation links: There's a bus stop a one-minute walk away and the Ottaviano Metro Station is a 10-minute walk away. There are several cafes,
bars, and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and a mini-supermarket just
next door. The Pantheon, Piazza
Navona, the Opera House, the
Baths of Diocletian, the Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain are all under a 20-minute bus ride away. Santa
Maria degli Angeli, Termini Train Station, the
Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, and the
Colosseum are all 13 to 15 minutes away by car (or 20 to 25 minutes via public transportation). Leonardo
da Vinci International Airport takes about 30 minutes to reach by car.

Rooms

Simple, clean, and comfortable rooms

The guest rooms at Adriatic
Hotel can differ widely in size, and some are quite cramped. The style is a
little dated -- but not unpleasant -- decorated in a cheery blue-and-green color
scheme, including two-toned cream-and-blue wallpaper, green carpets with matching
bedspreads and curtains, and attractive and well-maintained mahogany-color
furniture. Some of the rooms have balconies overlooking the street below. The
bathrooms are compact but have modern fixtures, C.O. Bigelow toiletries,
hairdryers, and walk-in shower cubicles, though they can be a little claustrophobic. Some of
the bathrooms are wet bathrooms, with no separate shower cubicle or basin. All guest rooms have flat-screen TVs, but they lack Wi-Fi (which is available in reception and the rooftop terrace). Air-conditioning must be requested and is charged an extra
fee. The walls here tend to be thin and not well soundproofed, so street
noise is a frequent complaint among guests.

Features

Rooftop terrace, luggage room, 24-hour reception

There are few extra amenities on offer at the Adriatic Hotel. The rooftop terrace is a pleasant place to relax, and -- along
with the reception area -- can connect to the free Wi-Fi. Just off the
reception area is a large luggage room, which also has a fridge full of cold
drinks for sale. The reception desk is open 24 hours a day and staff members are on hand to
provide tourist information or book tours and airport shuttle tickets. Pets are allowed on request for free.
