Villas Geminis Boutique Condo Hotel

This cozy little family-owned place is unique for the area in that all its rooms pay tribute to famous artists. It's colorful throughout, with lots of lush tropical plants, low lighting, and artistic touches. The small open-air reception desk is backed by two large paintings, and a pink wicker chair provides a place where guests can pause. The pool area is in the center of the building, and serves as the lone social hub at the hotel, though admittedly there's not too much mingling going on here. Instead, this is a quiet and peaceful property, and most guests are out exploring the Tulum area during the day. At night, you can hear crickets singing rather than traffic noise. The hotel draws tourists from a variety of countries, especially couples, but also families and groups of friends.

This hotel is located on a small, quiet street in the heart of downtown Tulum, within walking distance of numerous restaurants, shops, and bars. There's also a grocery store about a block away. The beach is five minutes away by car, or 15 minutes via the hotel's free bicycles. Grand Cenote is about a five-minute drive from the hotel, and Akumal, with great diving, can be reached in about 15 minutes by car. The archaeological site of Tulum also is about 15 minutes away. The Sian Ka'an Biosphere nature reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a good place for seeing unexcavated Mayan ruins as well as hundreds of species of animals and plants, can be reached in about 40 minutes. Cancun International Airport is about 90 minutes away by car.   

The rooms here are all different, and each is named after a famous artist. They're modern and fresh, tastefully decorated using artistic touches and bright color schemes. The look is homey, and includes slip-covered couches, simple light and dark wood furniture (some of which is just a bit worn), and stone in-lay details. All rooms feature air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and free drinking water. The two largest units are the two-level Two-Bedroom Condos, with full kitchens, living rooms, and bathrooms on the lower level plus two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. The three Penthouse Studios (Degas, Matisse, and Miro) are located on the the third floor of one of the buildings. They are open and airy, with a king-size bed, futon, fully equipped kitchen, and a private terrace with an outdoor soaking tub. Beach towels and totes are provided for guests to use during their stay. Bathrooms are modern and lovely, and come with rainfall showerheads, hairdryers, and organic toiletries. All rooms have a balcony or terrace, with a hammock or lounge chair for relaxing. 

There aren't a ton of features at this boutique property, though most guests spend their days out exploring, making what's on offer sufficient enough for most of those who stay here. A continental breakfast of fruits, yogurt, granola, breads, jams, and boiled eggs is served daily in the garden, which is filled with lush tropical plants and eye-catching art. There's also a long communal table inside with a skylight above. Brightly colored art and flowers are everywhere, and a large tree growing in the center pokes out of the ceiling. The hotel's small pool is a lovely space with lush tropical greenery surrounding it. Several hammocks and cushioned lounge chairs are available for relaxing poolside. Guests also get free access to a couple of beach clubs, as well as beach towels and totes to use during their stay. Massage services and manicures and pedicures can be booked for in-room treatments. Excursions and tours can be arranged through the concierge, and guests get free use of bicycles for exploring the area. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and dogs are allowed for a fee.
