The Royal Tulip Rio Sao Conrado is a four-pearl property across the street from the breathtakingly beautiful São Conrado beach. The fitness center and kids' club go above-and-beyond what's usually found in Rio, and the lobby bar hosts occasional live music. Free Wi-Fi and a free breakfast buffet are nice extras. Scene
Large chain hotel with gorgeous views
The multistory Royal Tulip Rio Sao Conrado hotel was renovated in 2014. Its white, balcony-lined facade is simply decorated with international flags and reflective surfaces that mirror the palm trees and flowers planted across the street. Inside, the lobby floor is lined with geometric white, gray, and black tiles. A wooden table holds Champagne glasses and bottles of sparkling wine on ice. Brown leather club chairs offer a space to read the newspaper, which is set out on black circular tables. Pots of green plants and one yellow wall add a touch of color. This property is popular with business and leisure travelers alike, and the expansive public spaces mean that crowding isn't a problem here.
Location
Across the street from São Conrado beach
The hotel offers a São Conrado district location, outside of the Copacabana tourism scene of Rio de Janeiro, which has its pros and cons. The scene itself is picture perfect: amazing white-sand beach, high surrounding mountains with the lush Tijuca Forest, and the dramatic Pedra da Gávea rock as a backdrop. Also in the vicinity is Rocinha, one of the largest favelas (slum areas) of South America. Although security has much improved in recent years, the location, particularly at night or on busy weekends, may not always feel so safe to walk around. Sewage water from the favela runs untreated to the ocean, just a few hundred meters away from the hotel.São Conrado district is mainly residential though it does offer the Fashion Mall, a major shopping center filled with high-end boutiques, fancy restaurants, and movie theaters. Expect a 20-to 30-minute drive to Copacabana and Ipanema. Galeão International Airport is about an hour's drive from the hotel. Santos Dumont Airport can be reached in around 30 minutes. There's a charge for parking at the hotel.

Rooms have either wood laminate or carpeted floors, and all have writing desks and modern furniture. Wi-Fi is free in rooms and public areas, but some guests have reported problems of poor connections. The hotel also offers high-speed Internet, but for a fee.Bathrooms -- in the newly renovated rooms -- are elegant and modern.
