Bottom Line

This medium-size, upscale hotel is just a five-minute walk from the Adriatic Sea in fun-loving Rimini, a popular resort area full of vacationers and business travelers -- trade shows and events are often held here. Rooms have a minimalist style with lots of natural light and private balconies, while the fresh and bright hotel offers fun and convenient amenities: an expansive breakfast, an outdoor pool, and free bike rentals. It’s convenient to the old town, for dining and strolling, and also has a chic on-site restaurant and sleek lounge. There’s no fitness center on-site, and the style might feel a little too sterile for some, but it’s a well-priced four-star property.

Scene

Modern, light-filled lobby and sleek lounge

The hotel is overtly modern, inside and out. A slick, glass-filled exterior leads to a large lobby with shiny wood paneling, blue pod chairs and a clear, winding staircase. The hallways have funky blue lighting, while the bar is covered in aqua tile befitting of the beach location. The area around the pool is narrow, but filled with rattan loungers. The hotel tends to draw business travelers and couples seeking a sophisticated place to stay though spacious rooms and amenities for kids draw families, too.

Location

Close to the beach and the old town in popular resort area

Aqua Hotel is fairly central, located in a residential area midway between the Adriatic Sea and the city center. While Rimini today is a popular resort area, it has an artistic history, and is known for its ancient Renaissance and Roman monuments. The sunny property is about a five-minute walk from the beach, a promenade for seaside strolling, and the old town of Rimini, which is filled with cafes, bars, shops, and nightlife options. It’s also convenient to the Rimini train station, which can be reached by foot in less than 10 minutes. Rimini’s Federico Fellini International Airport is a 20-minute drive away. Limited outdoor parking is free, but there's a charge for covered parking.

Rooms

Clean and bright, but somewhat bland decor

The 96 rooms and suites at Aqua Hotel are bright and clean, though they're a slight disappointment compared to the rest of the hotel. The wood furniture is more sterile than stylish, and the comfortable beds have plain white linens with some blue touches. The large bathrooms have bright-aqua accent tiles and large stall showers, but the plastic shower walls in the basic rooms are not very luxurious. The rooms are soundproofed and include minibars, flat-screen TVs, laptop safes, and furnished private balconies overlooking neighboring rooftops and streets. More deluxe rooms come with tea- and coffee-making facilities, free coffee at the bar, and free minibar drinks and snacks.

Features

Free and plentiful breakfast, pool, and kids’ room

There’s a free breakfast with plenty of options, including cold cuts and eggs. The sunny, minimalist-chic Aqua In Bocca Restaurant serves lunch and dinner -- making use of local produce and fresh seafood. The elegant Qbar lounge is open all day, and has pretty, aquamarine tile. The rectangular pool has a hydromassage area, and there’s a dedicated kiddy pool. Beach towels are available, and umbrellas and cushions are available with the hotel’s all-inclusive option. The Aqua offers free bicycle rentals, and also a special room with games and books that's open during meal times -- entertaining the kids while their parents dine. There are three modern rooms for business meetings, with all the necessary technologies and lots of natural light.
