Bottom Line

The SENDITO Apollo Blue is a large four-pearl, beachfront resort in a somewhat gritty spot in Faliraki, the northeastern coast of Rhodes, close to the airport. Its 154 rooms range from Singles to Junior Suites and have views of the grounds, pool, or sea. A free breakfast with a vast assortment is included in room rates and there are several restaurants and bars, including one at the main pool. Other features include a tennis court, a spa, and a fitness center, as well as a children's pool, a playground, and a kids' club. Note that the resort can get crowded in high season and there have been complaints of noise in rooms. Those looking for something a bit quieter may want to compare rates at the Lindos Sun Hotel.

Scene

Sprawling resort with festive atmosphere, popular with European retirees

The SENTIDO Apollo Blue is a sprawling resort with several restaurants and bars, pools, and a beach nearby. With nightly entertainment, it's usually bustling with activity. Built in 2009, the white-masonry building has a large glass rotunda-style lobby with a wine bar. High tray ceilings and cream-colored tub chairs loan the space some elegance, although the overstuffed leather couches detract from this a bit. There are also gift and snack shops in the lobby, selling cheap souvenirs. Restaurants include Taverna, with stainless-steel buffet trays, soft-drink machines, and pump-style jars of condiments, plus a room with Delft-style blue armchairs and walls of windows with views of the sea. There's also an outdoor stone amphitheater, and regular entertainment, including live bands. The resort can feel hectic in the high season, and is popular with German and Russian tourists, many of them retirees.

Location

In the Faliraki area of Rhodes, a seedy neighborhood known for nightlife

The SENTIDO is in the Faliraki section of Rhodes with a lively nightlife scene and plenty of strip clubs and peep shows. On the flip side, there is a water park a three-minute walk away and Apollo Beach is nine minutes from the resort on foot. Kalithea Springs takes 11 minutes to reach by car and it's a 15-minute drive to the old town section of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The site of the Colossus of Rhodes is a 17-minute drive, while the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes is a 21-minute drive away. It's 36 minutes by car to St. Paul's Bay, while Lindos Village, with its narrow streets and ancient walls, is a 33-minute drive away. The Rhodes International Airport is an 18-minute drive away.

Rooms

Simple, modern rooms and suites, some with beach views and extras such as whirlpool tubs

While the guest rooms at the SENTIDO have practical amenities such as air-conditioning, small flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, robes, and slippers, they have little verve. The largely white and beige backdrop includes two-tone wooden headboards and beds covered in pin-tucked satin with white linens. Rooms include terraces with arched entry ways and woven furniture, plus mable tile floors, and sliding glass doors with drapes. Bathrooms might have green marble counters, cream tile walls, and round vessel sinks, and hairdryers that are reportedly not the most efficient. Most have walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, though some of the higher-category rooms have whirlpool tubs or private pools. Rooms range from Singles with garden views to Junior Suites with views of the sea. Note that there have been some noise complaints.

Features

Multiple restaurants and bars, pools for kids and adults, children's activities, spa, and beach

The SENTIDO offers a wide variety of amenities providing a full, self-contained resort experience. The big, atrium-style lobby bar specializes in wine and there are two little shops selling snacks, newspapers, clothing, and cheap souvenirs. Greek folk music plays at Taverna Restaurant, which serves meals -- including a free breakfast -- from multiple stainless-steel bins. The main, more formal restaurant focuses on Greek and Italian cuisine and generally gets praise from guests.

The hotel's main pool is large, with lounge chairs, an adjacent children's pool, and a hexagonal-shaped bar that serves snacks. There's also a kids' club with activities and crafts, plus recreational options including arcade games, ping pong, air hockey, and a tennis court. The gym has cardio and strength-training machines plus free weights and exercise mats. The on-site sandy beach has a volleyball net and lounge chairs and umbrellas, though there's a fee to use them.

There's also a large spa with sauna, steam, and treatment rooms, plus a pretty azure-tiled whirlpool and a splash pool with tiny, star-shaped lights. Other features include babysitting services, laundry, and free (but reportedly spotty) Wi-Fi, along with meeting space and a business center with printing/copying facilities.
