Bottom Line

The 407-room Mitsis Rhodos Village Beach Hotel is a budget-friendly mountainside resort with five stylish pools, a private shingle beach, and tennis courts. The hillside location can be difficult for guests with limited mobility -- the property contains many stairs. Rooms are spacious with scenic balconies, but decor is dated with patterned bedspreads and old tube TVs. There is a variety of dining and drinking options, plus entertainment for the kids and nightly shows in a hillside amphitheater. For a hotel closer to sea level, check out the Horizon Line Villas.

Scene

Mountaintop family resort

The Mitsis Rhodos Village Beach Hotel is located on a beautiful hillside that overlooks the blue waters of Kiotari beach. The hill landscape is designed into the hotel with eye-catching, exposed rock walls near the glass elevators. The outdoor common areas are filled with flowers and greenery, arched doorways, and sloped hills and steps that lead to stunning views of the sea. From the glass elevators you can see the indoor pool with a charming rock wall waterfall, atrium ceiling, and cushioned lounge chairs. The lobby is bright and spacious with an arched wooden doorway that frames the picturesque sea in the background. A luxurious marble staircase with intricate metal handrails leads to the lobby's second level, where there's a comfortable seating area with black couches.

Location

On a hill overlooking Kiotari beach

From the hotel a day trip to the town of Lindos, a more touristy area with shopping and dining, takes 24 minutes by car. The Kiotari beach is a five-minute walk from the hotel and offers surfboard and kayak rentals -- plus other water sports. The hotel's private shingle beach features wooden bathrooms, changing rooms, showers, and free blue umbrellas and lounge chairs for guests. A beach volleyball court, petanque court, and archery lanes are also available. The airport will take about an hour and fifteen minutes by car. A trip to the ancient town of Rhodes is an hour car trip.

Rooms

Large rooms with picturesque views and old tube TVs

Guests can choose from Double Rooms, Bungalows, Family Rooms, and Maisonettes that have sea or garden views. Maisonettes have two levels and can fit up to five people. Rooms are furnished with beige tiled floors, patterned bedspreads and curtains, writing desks, safes (at a fee), mini-fridges, classic furniture, standard bathrooms with shower/tub combos and balconies or terraces. Some furnishings, however, are slightly outdated and worn, like rusted safes and light fixtures. Paying more for a room with sea views is recommended by guests.

Features

Five pools, beach, a pizzeria, snack bar, and multiple cocktail bars

Guests have multiple dining options including a main Lindos restaurant with a blue trimmed terrace and a buffet or a pizzeria with a stone oven. There’s also a snack bar with ice cream and terrace seating. The sunny rock cafe bar, located near the rock wall pool and beautiful mountainside, serves cocktails and food. Inside, is a main bar with a lot of natural light. On the beach is another bar with casual plastic seating. In total, there are five pools and a hot tub. The small circular kids' pool sits next to the mountain pool, which has multiple bridges to swim under, sea views, and blue lounge chairs and umbrellas. The garden pool is small and charming and surrounded by greenery. The main pool -- where the animation team hosts water polo games -- is large with a small bridge and palm trees. There is an outdoor amphitheater with nightly entertainment.
