The 202-room Lydia Maris Resort is an all-inclusive property near the seaside village of Kolymbia, a five-minute walk from the beach. The resort has a large pool with swim-up bar, plenty of activities for adults and children, beautiful gardens teeming with flowers, and lots of lawn space for sunbathing. Five restaurants offer various dining options; the pizza and gyro bars are popular, but the larger buffets suffer from lack of variety. Rooms are generic, but large and clean with nice balconies and flat-screen TVs.
Scene
Casual resort with big pool
The Lydia Maris Resort is busy and casual, with lovely gardens threading between room patios, tennis courts, lawns, and the large swimming pool. The lobby is big, relaxed, and sun-drenched, with a hodgepodge of mismatched, dated-looking couches. There is a grand piano and a coin-operated massage chair. Red sconces with ruby crystals hang on the white walls. The pool deck and sun bathing lawns can get crowded. This is a family resort, not a zen paradise; it’s ideal for guests who want to be active, busy, and social.
Location
Near the village of Kolymbia, five minutes from the beach
The Lydia Maris Resort is located a 20-minute walk from the seaside village of Kolymbia. There are a few shops and bars in the immediate area of the resort. The local beach is a five-minute walk away, but is quite rocky. The prettier, golden sand Virgin Tsampikas Beach, as well as a golf course, are three miles from the Lydia Maris. The town of Rhodes and the airport are 17 miles away.
Rooms
Simple rooms with furnished patios, sofa beds, and flat-screen TVs
Rooms at the Lydia Maris are large and basic, with white tile floors and light wood modular furniture. Each room has a sofa bed and furnished patio. The furniture and decor are dated, but as a base of operations for an active Greek island vacation, it is comfortable and pleasant. Bathrooms have deep tubs. Free bottled water is provided, as well as fresh fruit and wine upon arrival. Blackout drapes block out the sun, but noise can be a problem with rooms near the pool, where the bars are open late.
Features
Big pool, room service, game room, barbecue grills and picnic area, and evening entertainment
The Lydia Maris offers plenty of dining options, including a coffee shop and a mini-market for quick snacks, forgotten items, and souvenirs. There are darts, billiards, and a game room with arcade games for kids and grown up kids. Barbecue grills and picnic areas are located throughout the grounds. In the evenings, kids can attend the mini disco, and adults are treated to live music and shows; Greek night with regional music, dancing, and authentic barbecue is the most popular. Tennis courts are free, but use of lights for night play costs extra. The huge Main Restaurant buffet lacks variety; guests prefer the poolside Pizza Corner with wood-burning oven and the Greco Souvlaki Grill Restaurant, a Greek steakhouse serving lighter food. The Kids Restaurant is bright, colorful, and child-sized. The Pool Bar is special, located in the center of the huge swimming pool, with swim up access or a footbridge for non-swimmers. There is a tree growing out of the floor, through the white painted roof; bar stools line the gazebo so diners can watch the activities. The spa is pretty and new, with a peaceful ocean vibe. The tile and mosaic work is sea blue, and there are beach-themed paintings on the walls.
