This six-room, three-pearl boutique is a romantic hotel with an artistic bent. The renovated ruin of an ancient castle maintains its vintage charm while incorporating modern amenities like a whirlpool and a dining space serving a delicious breakfast, included in most rates. Rooms are individually decorated with themes based on the owner’s work and his original, award-winning photography adorning the walls. Each is comfortable, offering a king-size bed, minibar, kettle, and flat-screen TV, plus a whirlpool or jetted shower -- or both. Being in the heart of the City of Rhodes means easy access to restaurants and sites, but not the beach. Those who prefer more on-site amenities should check out Blue Sky City Beach Hotel, which has a pool, fitness room, and spa, but lacks the charm of In Camera.
Scene
Hospitable owners create a friendly environment in this artistically designed, historic hotel
In Camera Art Boutique Hotel wows guests with the hospitality of the owners, whose spot-on advice about the city makes for an insider’s look at Rhodes. From a warm welcome with a free drink, to reservations and arrangements as needed, to personal design touches throughout the hotel, guests are made to feel like valued visitors in the owners’ home. A chalkboard at reception that says "Enter as guests, leave as friends," is perhaps the best summary of the property's mission. The hotel is renovated from the ruins of an estate in the heart of Rhodes, and decorated from the owner’s artistic perspective and renowned personal photography collections. The reception area is a tight, but functional space with pretty design elements like mosaic floors and original photographs. Outdoor spaces are likewise compact, but appealing with potted plants and period architecture. Despite the city location, the hotel is generally quiet with a peaceful atmosphere, enhanced by the fact that only cars with permits are allowed in the area.
Location
In the center of the medieval city of Rhodes, near historic sites and restaurants
This hotel is on the northern tip of the Greek island of Rhodes, in the heart of the medieval section of the capital city. Guests may not drive inside the gated city (only cars with permits are allowed), but there is parking outside the northern gate, a four-minute walk from the hotel. Restaurants, shops, and sites are convenient, as most of the historic section is within a 10-minute walk of the hotel. The Old Town Castle, a grand building with impressive architecture, is a two-minute walk away. The Medieval Clock Tower and its impressive views is an eight-minute walk from the hotel. From the marine parking lot, it is an 11-minute drive to the Acropolis of Rhodes, an ancient ruin with fantastic views. There’s a beautiful stretch of beach a 10-minute drive from the parking lot. It is a 30-minute drive to Rhodes International Airport from the hotel, and the port is a 12-minute walk away.
Rooms
Beautiful, individually decorated rooms with minibars, kettles, and modern bathrooms
Each of the six rooms is designed from the owner’s artistic vision, including his personal photographs and photography equipment selected from the theme. While color palettes and furnishings vary from room to room, they all have a romantic and thoughtful aesthetic. King-size beds with thick, comfortable mattresses and Coco-mat bedding invite a restful sleep, while minibars, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, kettles with free coffee and tea, and safes add modern convenience. Rooms also include robes, slippers, and a free bottle of wine on arrival. Bathrooms are in-sync with the style of the room, and have modern whirlpool tubs or jetted showers -- or both -- and free Aptiva toiletries and hairdryers. Some rooms have a rooftop terrace with comfortable sunbeds and a stunning view of the surrounding city. Room options include multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, a sofa bed for an extra guest, and a living room. The Places in Suspension villa can accommodate up to six adults with its three bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, and dining area.
Features
A delicious breakfast, a bar, and a shared whirlpool
There's no lunch or dinner service at this small property, but a breakfast room and bar has a delightful outdoor patio on an upper floor, which provides a view of the area. The indoor space is a colorful spot decorated with the owner’s photographs and a collection of curios. The breakfast buffet is scrumptious, with eggs made-to-order, and is included in most rates. A shared whirlpool sits on a small outdoor patio with wood decking, tucked between the tall stone walls of the building. The remains of a stone fireplace, stone well, and decorative fountain give the space an authentic feel, while wicker sunbeds, a patch of grass, and colorful flowers create a cozy, charming atmosphere. Free Wi-Fi throughout is a perk, but some guests may be disappointed by the lack of a gym.
