Bottom Line

While there’s not much in the immediate area, the three-pearl Filoxenia Hotel Aparments is a seven-minute walk from the beach and has plenty of amenities on-site to keep guests entertained. The pools are free to use, but there are fees for the outdoor games, hefty prices in the restaurant, and a high rate for the hot and cold breakfast. The same surprise fees are found in the simple (and dated) apartments. Though they offer small kitchenettes, air-conditioning and safes both cost a fee, and they all lack TVs and Wi-Fi. While these fees are pesky, guests seem to appreciate the on-site owners and their positive attitudes and the (mostly) quiet atmosphere -- if the overhead planes don’t bother you. The beachfront Labranda Blue Bay Resort is a good alternative with free Wi-Fi throughout and a free indoor gym and pool.

Scene

Charming hotel with green grounds filled with olive trees

Filoxenia Hotel Apartments is a family-owned hotel popular mostly with couples and some families. The charming blue and white buildings rise above green grounds filled with olive trees, making for a great impression upon first sight. The hotel buildings look over the large central pool and a few have ocean views (from top floors). Past guests have noted that the owners live on-site and are quick to offer smiles and a welcoming atmosphere, especially through their home cooked meals in the low-key restaurant filled with a mix of blue and white or bamboo chairs inside and on the terrace. The hotel is geared toward relaxation, though airplanes flying above and price tags on everything from air-conditioning to breakfast, to even the outdoor games like table tennis, makes it less so.

Location

22-minute walk from Theologos and a seven-minute walk to the beach

Most guests appreciate the somewhat rural location of Filoxenia Hotel Apartments. It’s about a seven-minute walk from the pebble beach and a 22-minute walk to Theologos. There are a variety of dining options within a 20-minute walk or less, most of which are considerably cheaper than the hotel’s restaurant. Travelers won’t find a lot to do or see in this area, beyond going to the beaches and exploring the historic center of Theologos. Guests with cars might want to explore nearby cities like Rhodes (40-minute drive) or Ialysos (30-minute drive) for something fun to do. It’s a 16-minute drive to Rhodes International Airport.

Rooms

Simple apartment-style units with kitchenettes and balconies; lack TVs and Wi-Fi

The apartment-like rooms at Filoxenia Hotel Apartments are well kept via a six-times-a-week cleaning schedule and a three-times-a-week towel and linen change service. Despite a commitment to clean spaces, the decor is quite bland. Picture: Tiled floors and a mix of blond-wooden furniture and teal accents. While there are a few framed photography pieces on the walls, they’re quite small, drawing most of the attention to the old-fashioned furniture. All units come with small kitchenettes with sinks, mini-fridges, two-burner stoves, utensils, pots and pans, and kettles. The rooms lack Wi-Fi and TVs, and air-conditioning and safes are only available for a fee. Rooms on higher floors have better views from balconies. Bathrooms are small with tight showers with shower curtains. Don’t expect a lot of counter space or even toiletries for that matter. Hairdryers are available. Note that due to the hotel’s location near an airport, past guests have complained of bothersome plane noise from rooms.

Features

Swimming pool is the only free perk; breakfast and outdoor games cost a fee

Though a rocky pebble beach is just a seven-minute walk away, the hotel centers mainly on the outdoor swimming pool, children’s pool, and hot tubs. While use of the pool and loungers are free, Filoxenia Hotel Apartments is no stranger to nickeling and diming their guests, especially in terms of amenities. Outdoor activities like mini-golf, a large chess game, and table tennis cost a fee to use. The playground for children is free, but it’s quite limited in equipment. The on-site restaurant provides homemade food made by the owners, however, many guests complain of the hefty prices. Breakfast is also served for a fee and includes options that range from Greek yogurt to hot English breakfasts. Free Wi-Fi is only available in the public areas.
