The 308-room Electra Palace Resort is an all-inclusive destination on Rhodes’ western coast. The vibe is peaceful, relaxed, and beachy, with a luxury spa on-site to amp up the serenity factor. The grounds and common areas are spacious and bright, and rooms are spotless and airy, many with balconies overlooking the pool and the Aegean Sea beyond. Most of the hotel is casual, but, in the evening, the restaurant enforces a no-shorts policy for men.
Scene
An upscale seaside resort
The Electra Palace Resort is a lovely seaside vacation spot with an upscale but unstuffy elegance, and a peaceful vibe. The reception area has high ceilings and big picture windows, polished marble floors, and an abundance of comfortable, modern sofas and armchairs for lounging. Decor includes stone sculptures, ceramics, and flower arrangements. Lawns and pool decks are dotted with chic striped sun loungers and beach umbrellas; there is enough space that guests don't feel crowded. There is live music and karaoke in the evenings for some light entertainment.
Location
On a beautiful beach, off the beaten track, convenient to the airport
The Electra Palace Resort is located in a remote neighborhood on the west coast of Rhodes, on the Aegean Sea. The beach is gorgeous, but rocky rather than sandy, and the surf can be a little rough on the west side of the island. The town of Rhodes is 30 minutes away by car, and the airport is two miles from the resort. There is not much of note within walking distance, and the road is poorly lit for strolling, but there is a good bar with free Wi-Fi and a menu with a long list of cocktails directly across the road.
Rooms
Clean, spacious, modern rooms, with beautiful views
Rooms at the Electra Palace Resort are bright, spacious, and spotlessly clean. They are decorated in a relaxed, modern style with lots of white and cheerful pops of spring green. Furniture is simple and contemporary, and the floors are tile. Many rooms have balconies with gorgeous sea views. Although windows are soundproofed, light sleepers should request rooms away from the outdoor entertainment venue. The white and gray marble bathrooms are a little dated, but there is a generous supply of free toiletries. Use of the minibar is included, although supplies are not restocked. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, but service is spotty.
Features
Stunning lagoon-style pool, spa, fitness center, and entertainment for kids and adults
The centerpieces of the Electra Palace Resort are the enormous lagoon-style pool, with plenty of room for soaking or serious swimming, and the beach, both lined with sunbeds and umbrellas. Activities include tennis, billiards, ping pong, and darts. Kids are catered to in the mini club, on the playground, at the children's pool, and in the restaurants, with special kids' menus. The fitness center includes cardio machines and free weights, and the spa has an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and full menu of bodywork and beauty treatments. Evening entertainment includes live bands and karaoke. The Grant Restaurant is more than a run-of-the-mill buffet, with elegant white tablecloths and place settings, pretty wooden chairs with red upholstered seats, and fresh flowers on tables. Men must wear trousers to the Grant for dinner; the rule is strictly enforced. The Italian Flair Restaurant has a more intimate, trattoria feel, with terra-cotta tile floors, brightly colored posters, and a shaded outdoor patio. There is a 40 seat Chinese restaurant for guests who want a third dining option (and table service). The Electra Palace has three bars, with outdoor and indoor options, although the wine list is unmemorable.
