The 46-room CenterHotel Klopp is a well-kept two-and-a-half-pearl property located near the city’s main shopping street and a short walk from lots of hip cafes and bars. Decor is sober throughout, with just a touch of color here and there. Rooms vary in size – some are small and some more spacious – and all have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The restaurant only serves breakfast, but there’s lots of eating and drinking options close by. A free continental buffet breakfast is included in room rates, and there’s a cosy lounge area with a single computer terminal for guest use. Visitors looking to splash out may try Hotel Borg instead, which has a sauna, spa and fitness center, but no free breakfast.
Scene
Downtown budget hotel with simple, pleasant style
The Centerhotel Klopp is situated in a modern corner building, right in the city's main shopping area. The hotel has been open since 2009 and is part of a chain of six local family-run hotels in the center of Reykjavik. The lobby makes a welcoming first impression, with wood and slate flooring, comfortable seating, and Scandinavian touches with pale wood and local artwork. The breakfast room continues the theme with a large curved blond-wood topped bar, small wooden tables and a choice of dining chair or booth-style seating. Aside from the lounge area, though, there's little that would keep guests hanging around. As such, it's best used as a place to recharge at night after a day exploring. With its proximity to downtown, this hotel is a hotspot for business travelers and tourists alike, including couples, families, and guests going solo.
Location
Central Reykjavik, close to major shopping, bars, restaurants, and major sights
The hotel’s location in downtown Reykjavik means that many major attractions are within fairly easy walking distance from the front door. There's plenty of shopping just one block over, on Laugavegur. The Icelandic Parliament building and Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center will take eight minutes to reach on foot, and it's a nine-minute walk to the Reykjavik Art Museum. A little farther out are the Sun Voyager Sculpture and Shore Walk -- which is two minutes by car or cab, and 12 minutes on foot -- or the Aurora Museum, which is a five-minute drive. Pjodleikhusid bus and coach station is just a two-minute walk away and main bus terminal, Hlemmer, will take 10 minutes to reach on foot. Expect a 50-minute drive to Keflavik International Airport and the hotel can arrange transfers on request (for a fee).
Rooms
Plain but fresh, with seating areas, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi
The hotel has 46 rooms arranged over five floors, ranging in size from Standard Singles to Superior Doubles/Twins. Rooms have neutral colors throughout -- with a pop of vibrant red in accent walls -- plus dark laminate wood flooring or green carpeting and matching wood furniture. Each bedside has a handy wall-mounted angle-poise lamp, but keep in mind that doubles are often just two twin beds shoved together. All rooms have a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, mini-fridges (which can be stocked on request), electric kettles, blackout drapes, and free Wi-Fi. The smallest rooms measure in at 14 square meters (145 square feet), so they can be compact. Bathrooms are small and decorated in plain white-tile surrounds and sober gray floor tiles. Each has a separate shower cubicle or wet-room set up, with modern fittings, although counter space is limited in most. Hairdryers and pump-dispensed toiletries are provided
