It's difficult to get more bare-bones than Atlantic Apartments & Rooms, though for those on a budget, its clean, hostel-like rooms and studio apartments might do the trick at a price lower than what one will generally find in Reykjavik. It's a 14-minute drive from the center of town. Although it's fine for a couple nights' stay, those looking to be closer to the center of the action might want to go for a property in the city center proper, as the units can be on the drab side and for those not intent on self-catering, there aren't as many cafes or restaurants in the area. If being central is more important than bargain rates, the CenterHotel Klopp is a value property that might fit the bill.
Scene
Generally unmanned, hostel-like property, but clean and cheap
Atlantic Apartments & Rooms make for a cheap stay on a visit to notoriously pricey Reykjavik, though when it comes to simplicity, it's hard to get any more basic than this. The building itself is simply furnished, with a plain exterior and a basic reception area with a few chairs and an IKEA chandelier. However, guests should know that reception is rather non-existent -- the property is generally unmanned, though there's occasionally someone at reception -- so instructions to access the property are sent via email (the manager is very responsive).
Location
Outside of the city center
Atlantic Apartments and Rooms is located on a main road, albeit a quiet one, set nine minutes by car from the city center. Buses run every 10 minutes for a 15-minute journey into the center from a stop close to the hotel. The property is also 18 minutes on foot from the beach, and 15 minutes from the city's botanical garden, city zoo, and a public pool. There's a popular pub opposite the hotel, as well as a Domino's nearby, and it's very close to a supermarket. Keflavík International Airport is about a 45-minute drive by car.
Rooms
Bare-bones rooms, some with shared bathrooms
The property's units are divided into rooms and studio apartments. Apartments are all self-catering -- handy in an area where restaurants tend to be expensive-- and have kitchenettes with stovetops, cookware, kettles, mini-fridges, and microwaves. The rest of the reasonably sized living areas are either furnished with sofas or table and chairs. The Economy categories have just kettles, mini-fridges, and microwaves. The property's rented rooms are similar to that of a typical hotel --think bunk beds and a sink, but that's about it. Unsurprisingly, decor isn't going to be the most inspiring -- think white walls, wood floors, white curtains, and white linens. Some rooms are carpeted, and it's apparent that the material is getting old. Bathrooms are decently sized in the apartment units and shared in the hallways if it's just a room that's booked. Guests should know that there aren't any elevators, so those with lots of luggage or with mobility difficulties should request one on a lower floor.
Features
Low on features, but free Wi-Fi and free parking
The property is pretty low on amenities since it's self-catering. There are no dining or wellness amenities offered. The main bonus for staying here is that it's cheaper than a property in town. Wi-Fi is free, but it can be patchy depending on the unit. Free parking is available on-site.
