Bottom Line

This upper-middle-range, family-friendly property offers 168 apartment-style rooms on tranquil grounds just opposite the gorgeous Catseye Beach, which is a four-minute walk away. Although the surrounding area is quiet, the shops and restaurants of Resort Centre are within walking distance, and several island attractions are also close by. Apartments are plain-looking but spacious, with two TVs, full kitchens, and balconies big enough for outdoor dining. Amenities are on the sparse side; the outdoor pool and whirlpool areas are pleasant, but apartments lack Wi-Fi and there are no dining options apart from a cute coffee cart. The neighboring Reef View Hotel has similar views but more features, including a sauna, restaurant, and arcade.

Scene

Peaceful, tropical surroundings and mostly plain interiors

Gently swaying palm trees, carefully landscaped lawns with winding walking paths, and gorgeous ocean views give this property a tropical, laid-back vibe that has relaxation written all over it. The plain, cream-colored main building, on the other hand, could use some sprucing up, as the lobby is a rather stark white-tiled room offering little apart from a front desk. Hallways are equally bare. Other than a simple lounge room with wicker chairs and a TV, plus some outdoor seating near the pool, there are few common areas. As a result, the atmosphere is on the quiet side but is conducive for a peaceful, non-rowdy holiday for the primary clientele of families and couples.

Location

On a quiet street, slightly removed from Resort Centre but still within walking distance

The Apartments have a beautiful location overlooking Catseye Beach, which is an easy, four-minute walk away. The property sits on a quiet street, slightly removed from the busier Resort Centre of Hamilton Island, but is still close enough to reach the shops and restaurants in that area in just six minutes on foot. There are no cars on the island, but most attractions are within walking distance, or can be quickly reached via rentable golf buggies. The mini-golf course is a three-minute walk away, and the Wild Life Hamilton Island park is an eight-minute walk away. One Tree Hill is a six-minute buggy drive away.Hamilton Island Airport is a five-minute drive away. The ferry depot at Hamilton Island Marina is 13 minutes away on foot, but shuttles are provided to and from both areas by the hotel as part of guests’ bookings

Rooms

Large, comfortable apartments with plain-looking interiors, but full kitchens and lovely views

Guests can choose between Garden View apartments on the low level, or Sea View and Deluxe Coral Sea View apartments on higher floors. Although the apartments are clean and practical, their white tile flooring, wooden furniture, and basic lamps don’t have a lot of character. At 914 square feet, all apartments are impressive in size, including large bedrooms with king beds, living rooms with sofas and dining tables, and full kitchens with bar counters and stools. Closets have ample space. Floor-to-ceiling windows slide open to balconies furnished with dining tables and chairs. Views are all beautiful, but panoramas of the sea from higher floors are especially breathtaking. All apartments are equipped with air-conditioning, safes, and flat-screen TVs with DVD players are placed in the bedrooms and living rooms. Full kitchens have tea- and coffee-making facilities, microwaves, full refrigerators and freezers, stoves, ovens, toasters, and cooking and eating utensils. Ironing equipment, umbrellas, and some cleaning supplies are also provided. However, Wi-Fi isn’t available in rooms.Bathrooms have dual entrances, and are nicely sized but not exceptionally big. Their walk-in showers with fixed showerheads are also on the slightly small side. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features

Pleasant pool and hot tub, and a cute coffee cart

Features here are limited. The highlight is the outdoor lagoon pool, framed with large stones, foliage, and lounge chairs, but some guests find the water too cold. There's also a huge outdoor whirlpool. Hotel guests also get access to the Bougainvillea Pool on Catseye Beach. Ice cream, packaged snacks, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages are available in the lobby to purchase, and there’s also a cute coffee cart for specialty coffees by the outdoor seating area. However, the hotel has no real dining options or breakfast. Instead, there are regular, free shuttle buses that take guests to the restaurants and shops in the marina area. Guest laundry is available in a room with six coin-operated washer/dryer units. Free Wi-Fi is available in the guest lounge and the lobby areas.
