Hot or cold breakfast options are available for a fee, and there’s a 24-hour gym, meeting facilities, a concierge, and free hotel-wide Wi-Fi. Travelers looking to be right inside Old Quebec may want to consider the slightly cheaper Hotel 71, which has more stylish rooms plus free breakfast and a rooftop terrace.
Scene
Charming, elegant, and intimate property with a lively atmosphere
There’s a buzzy vibe to the Quebec City Marriott, housed in an eight-story corner building. The small but intimate lobby is elaborately decorated, with cream tiled flooring and a winding dark-wood staircase that leads up to the first-floor interior balcony. This space houses the club lounge, complete with a gorgeously restored period fireplace. Downstairs, the elegant high front desk has a wood frontage and a white marble countertop, and internet terminals are set against an attractive cream-colored leather accent wall. The cozy lobby bar mixes orange-upholstered high stools and dark-wood tables, and an elevated carpet area gives a lounge-y space with cream-colored armchairs by another fireplace. Hallways are elegant, too, sporting off-white walls and patterned cream-on-brown carpet. Both tourists and business travelers are drawn to this Marriott.
Location
At the entrance of Old Quebec, convenient for the city’s historic core as well as downtown
On a lively block just opposite the Porte Saint-Jean gate to Old Quebec, the Marriott is convenient to numerous Old Quebec attractions and to the business heart of downtown. In the winter months there’s a popular ice-skating rink in the square right outside, while plenty of great restaurants are within walking distance of the hotel.- One-minute walk to the Palais Montcalm concert hall
Rooms
Comfortable, air-conditioned rooms with coffeemakers -- though some details are dated
Rooms at the Quebec City Marriott are pleasantly decorated -- but small. Comfortable beds rest against brown accent walls with matching dark-wood headboards that sport black borders, but dated tan-colored bedskirts detract from the otherwise stylish tone. Dark striped sofas and armchairs, generously sized closets, and small desks sit on generic brown patterned carpets. Entry-level King and Double Queen Rooms are more or less the same save for different bed configurations, while Suites add chic orange daybeds to the bedrooms. Both Suites and pricier Executive Suites have spacious and attractive separate living rooms with small glass-topped dining tables and tan leather sofas. These room types also feature attractive shelving units decked out with charming objets d’art, plus wet bars and lovely large whitewashed closets. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, phones, air-conditioning, and handy power and USB media outlets. All rooms also come with coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and ironing facilities, but no safes. Suites and Executive Suites add robes. Bathrooms are generally spacious, if dated, with large marbled vanities, cream floor tiling and white walls, and shower/tub combos with fixed showerheads. Executive Suites swap vanities for old-fashioned freestanding sinks and have corner bathtubs and separate walk-in showers. Hairdryers and toiletries by Thann are provided. Note that some rooms pick up noise from the streets below and, while rooms on higher floors enjoy pleasant city and river views, the proximity of neighboring buildings means others have next to no view at all.
Features
Popular French restaurant, buffet or a la carte breakfast (for a fee), and 24/7 gym
This Marriott offers a good range of facilities for a hotel of its category. The Que Sera Sera restaurant adjoining the lobby is a popular spot for French cuisine, and there's also a small lobby bar plus room service. The hot and cold breakfast is served either buffet or a la carte, though it’s not always included in rates. There’s a large 24-hour gym, complete with a full range of free weights and cardio and weight-lifting machines. Guests in higher-category rooms get access to stylish club facilities where there's free hot and cold drinks, though hours are limited and past guests report that the space is sometimes closed without prior notice. Business facilities include six stylish meeting rooms, the largest of which has a capacity of 120 guests, and there’s free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. On-site valet parking is available for a fee, and there’s a public parking lot nearby (which also costs extra).
