Bottom Line

Auberge
Aux Deux Lions is a charming, affordable redbrick house with 14 cozy guest rooms
spread over four floors in the Montcalm district of downtown
Quebec City, close to the historic center. This budget hotel has a
bed-and-breakfast feel to it (though breakfast is not included in room rates). Some of the budget
rooms have private bathrooms located just outside the rooms, and Superior Rooms and Suites have
extra amenities like living rooms, kitchenettes, balconies, and
access to the hotel garden. Overall, Auberge Aux Deux Lions offers a very
good value when compared to similar hotels in the area, but for something
a bit more chic (with a higher price tag), Hotel des Coutellier is a good choice.

Scene

Small budget guesthouse with a cozy bed-and-breakfast vibe

Auberge
Aux Deux Lions is located on a busy main street of mostly other
residential houses and buildings in downtown Quebec city. It's located in a
rambling house with guest rooms on each of the four floors, including
the basement, connected by a central staircase. However, there's no elevator and the many stairs may
be a challenge for guests with limited mobility. The interior spaces
are bright and cheery thanks to the high ceilings and many windows
letting in lots of natural light, and the decor is homey without
being overdone or cluttered. The wooden furniture and interior doors
are finished in warm tones, and the tile floors are covered with
rugs. A few plants decorate the space. This hotel is especially
popular with vacationing couples.

Location

In the trendy Montcalm district, a short drive from Old Quebec

Auberge
Aux Deux Lions is centrally located in the heart of Quebec City, in
the delightful Montcalm district, near restaurants, cafes, markets, and bakeries. The historical
district of Old Quebec is a
seven-minute drive away, and getting to the Place Royale Museum, Chateau Frontenac, and the Museum of Civilization takes around eight minutes by car. It's a three-minute
walk to Grand Theatre de Quebec, a six-minute
walk to La Maison Henry-Stuart, and just over 10 minutes on foot to the Quebec Convention Center, the Quebec Parliament Building, and the Edwin-Belanger
Bandstand. The National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec and the Plains of Abraham are around 15 minutes away on foot.

Rooms

Clean and tidy rooms with classic decor, some with bathrooms outside the main units

Rooms at the Auberge Aux Deux Lions vary in size and
layout, but they are clean and decorated in a similar, simple classic style,
typical of a mid-range hotel. The brown curtains match the dark
furniture and contrast with white walls and the hardwood floors. All rooms are air-conditioned and have flat-screen TVs. Some of the Superior Rooms have rustic-style stone walls. Many of the
rooms are bright and have high ceilings, while the basement rooms are
darker, but not unpleasant
despite the low ceilings. The Family Room has one double bed and two
singles. The attached bathrooms are kept in good shape and come equipped with
either shower/tub combos or walk-in showers. Some of the budget rooms have private bathrooms located just outside
the doors, but they aren't shared with other rooms. Some of the Superior
Rooms feature living areas and kitchenettes (complete with microwaves,
refrigerators, and coffeemakers), and some have balconies or access to
the hotel garden. There are also shared kitchen facilities accessible
by all guests.

Features

Breakfast (for a fee), guest kitchen facilities, free Wi-Fi, and paid parking

The Auberge offers a continental breakfast for a fee, but guests who prefer to prepare their own meals can make use of
the shared kitchen facilities, which include a fridge, a microwave,
and coffee- and tea-making facilities. There's also a guest lounge
and a garden terrace. Other paid services include laundry and parking. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
