Haramara Retreat
Near Sayulita

Haramara is arguably one of the most special hotels in Mexico. It is a luxurious yoga retreat located on 12 seaside acres of wild vegetation just outside Sayulita. The structures have been built using traditional construction techniques to minimize the environmental impact, and there is no electricity anywhere besides the restaurant and the yoga studio -- not even in the rooms. Each room is housed in a private standalone thatched hut with no window panes or screens separating it from the jungle, and only gauze curtains and mosquito nets to avoid bugs and critters. It is geared towards those in need of some detoxification and relaxation, with yoga and meditation classes, an open-air spa, a vegetarian and seafood restaurant, unpaved trails, and limited cell phone service.

Hotel Villas Sayulita
Rosalio Tapia s/n, esquina Sabalo

A yoga-centric hotel with a holistic atmosphere, the budget Hotel Villas Sayulita appeals to young travelers with its health and wellness focus. The hotel host frequent yoga retreats and daily yoga classes in its two on-site studios. An outdoor smoothie bar with a health-conscious menu keeps yogis fueled throughout the day, and guests can book all-inclusive meal plans. Though the property itself is a bit dilapidated, rooms are clean and spacious with simple Mexican-inspired decor. Hotel Villas Sayulita has a tiny pool and offers free Wi-Fi, plus shops, restaurants, and the beach are within walking distance. As an alternative, Villa Amor provides individually decorated villas that can feel a step above in terms of accommodations, but it lacks this property's focus on wellness.

Amor Boutique Hotel
Calle Pescadores S/N

An upscale boutique with a romantic Mexican theme, Amor Boutique Hotel is an ideal pick for couples seeking a quiet atmosphere in Sayulita. The gorgeous setting overlooks the beach, but it unfortunately doesn’t offer direct access to the sand. There’s an on-site restaurant and two mid-size pools, but Amor Boutique’s main attractions are its 24 stylish rooms. The hotel has studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas with stunning outdoor living spaces, full kitchens, and uniquely decorated bedrooms. It's worth noting that the property has tons of stairs, and no elevator, so it isn’t ideal for people with mobility issues, or those traveling with young children. Travelers interested in yoga may prefer Haramara Retreat, which also offers access to a little private beach; however the eco-friendly rooms here lack electricity.

Playa Escondida
Ave Playa Escondida # 1, Sayulita Nayarit

This secluded, romantic retreat is tucked away in a beachfront spot in the jungle outside Sayulita. It offers 25 beautiful rooms housed in standalone huts built using natural local materials and offering ocean or jungle views, rustic-chic decor, terraces, and no window panes. The idea is to deliver an unplugged, in-touch-with-nature vacation, so rooms have no TVs, while cell phone and internet service are limited to some common areas. The beautiful infinity pool, gorgeous massage huts, tasty restaurants, and private sandy beach are all highlights. Just note that Bird Canyon rooms, while as gorgeous as the other accommodations, are far from the main facilities (a golf cart is provided). The vibe is definitely adult-oriented, and kids are only allowed during certain holiday periods.

Siete Lunas
Camino sin Nombre (camino Playa de los Muertos) #714 3rd section

A stunning clifftop property with incredible ocean views, Siete Lunas is a secluded, upper-middle-range retreat worth seeking out. The hotel’s seven thatched roof bungalows feature earthy Mexican-inspired decor and large outdoor balconies that overlook the water. Siete Lunas has a tiny infinity pool and an outdoor lounge area with a bar. Free breakfast is served each morning in the hotel’s open-air palapa, but there’s no full service restaurant, spa, or fitness center. While its location is tucked away and tranquil, it's also difficult to reach — a harrowing potholed hill requires a taxing walk or drive. Downtown Sayulita and the beach are a 20-minute walk away, so travelers looking for something closer to the action may prefer Amor Boutique Hotel, an equally romantic property with more amenities.

Villa Amor
Camino a Playa los Muertos, Sayulita 63734 Mexico

Villa Amor is a mid-range boutique hotel that consists of privately owned villas overlooking the bay of Sayulita. Prices are on the high side, especially when you consider there's no private beach access  or TVs in the villas. What you're paying for here are the gorgeous views and almost unbeatable location that feels secluded, but is nonetheless just next to the beaches and bohemian village of Sayulita. Villas are privately owned, so each is decorated individually. The best ones have cavernous bathrooms, panoramic ocean views, and privae plunge pools -- none of them have TVs or phones, and Wi-Fi can be spotty. Children are welcome, but steep steps and few amenities draw couples looking for romance or families with older kids.
