SBH Costa Calma Beach Resort
Avda. Augustin Millares, 2

The 556-room SBH Costa Calma Beach Resort is a huge mid-range hotel catering to both couples and families, located in the more secluded (or isolated) north end of the town. Rooms are fairly spare and offer limited amenities (plus Wi-Fi incurs a fee), and some are in need of a makeover, but they're bright and clean, and all have balconies -- some with sea views. Apartments with kitchenettes are also available. The main pool and restaurant are large, though as they are often catering to over 1,000 guests, they need to be. Family-friendly facilities include a kids' club and splash pool, plus guests can use a spa and small fitness center (for a fee). A semi-private beach is a nice addition, though it's not the prettiest on the island. For a nicer beach closer to the center, the H10 Tindaya Hotel is a solid choice.

Sotavento Beach Club
Avenida Jahn Reisen 3

Sotavento Beach Club is a sprawling mid-range apartment resort popular with German travelers in Costa Calma. The property has a main buffet restaurant, a large swimming pool, and plenty of on-site activities. The property is undergoing renovation works, so there’s a mix of modern, and dated facilities, but overall the superb Jandia Beach location and family-friendly atmosphere wins over most guests. Those who prefer a traditional Canarian hotel might consider nearby SBH Crystal Beach Hotel & Suites -- but note that its facilities are on the dated side.

SENTIDO H10 Playa Esmeralda
C/ Punta del Roquito, 2

The 333-room Sentido H10 Playa Esmeralda is an upper-middle-range hotel featuring contemporary interiors. It is located on the outskirts of town, but has a secluded feel and direct access to (despite not overlooking) a sandy -- clothing optional -- beach. The spa is a highlight, especially the twin hot tubs, and child-friendly facilities are solid. Dining options include a buffet restaurant, snack bar, and a lobby bar. Rooms are clean and bright, with private balconies and sea views in some, but amenities are limited and Wi-Fi is available only in the lobby. Overall, this is one of the more popular hotels for good reasons, though for guaranteed sea-view rooms compare rates with the SBH Costa Calma Palace.

Risco del Gato Suites THe Senses Collection
Calle Sicasumbre 2

The VIK Suite Hotel Risco del Gato is an upscale, all-suite property featuring some of the most innovative architecture on the island. The 51 pod-like suites include separate lounges and private patios, plus whirlpool tubs in all bathrooms -- which helps make them popular with romantic couples. The hillside setting means its a fairly steep five-minute walk to the beach, though affords some pleasant sea views. Rates are among the area's highest, but you get a lot of space for your money. For direct beach access, consider the H10 Tindaya Hotel just down the hill.

SBH Costa Calma Palace
Avenida Jahn Reisen s/n

The 417-room SBH Costa Calma Palace is an upper-middle-range resort with some seriously impressive architecture set in the center of Costa Calma. Although not kid-free, the hotel is geared toward adults, with little in the way of child-friendly facilities. At least partial sea views are guaranteed from all the rooms' balconies or terraces, while direct access to a great stretch of beach is also a highlight. Food quality, too, is better than at many competing resorts, as is the evening entertainment. All in all, this is a great option for couples, but families would fare better at the excellent H10 Tindaya Hotel.

Hotel SBH Fuerteventura Playa
Avenida Jahn Reisen 1, Urb Canada del Rio

This 300-room, mid-range all-inclusive resort is within walking distance of Costa Calma town, and has direct access to the beach. While much of the property feels stuck in the '80s, the resort is colorful and cheerful with well-tended gardens. Rooms tend to be basic, with some bathrooms in need of renovation, though many have sea views. There's a kids' play area on the sand, and water sports are available, though note that the beach has a rocky section by the water. For a nicer stretch of beach check out the slightly pricier H10 Tindaya Hotel, which also has more pools.

R2 Rio Calma Hotel & Spa & Conference
C/ Artistas Canarios 8

The R2 Rio Calma Hotel is a 384-room, upper-middle-range property with impressive colonial-style architecture and design. It is set in tiered, tropical gardens in a slightly secluded location, about a 30-minute walk (or short cab ride) from the main beach. There's a man-made lagoon area on-site with some imported sand, which leads to a rocky stretch of coast. Superb sea views can be enjoyed from the huge pool and most bedroom balconies. Rooms are dated but reasonably spacious and homey. Eating and drinking options are decent, and rates include half- and full-board options. For a truly all-inclusive option that is closer to the beach, consider sister property Hotel R2 Pajara Beach -- just know that its rooms are even more dated than the ones here.

R2 Pajara Beach Hotel & Spa
C/Punta del Roquito, s/n

With 355 rooms, this upper-middle-range all-inclusive is one of the largest resorts on the island, but also one of the more swish -- at least in the public areas. Guest rooms tend to be plain and dated, though many feature sea-view balconies. Kids will likely appreciate the kids' club and games room, and the huge, ocean-view freeform pool with zero-entry and adjacent kiddy pool is a highlight. The resort is not on the beach and the nearest stretch of coast is rocky, but it is under a 10-minute walk to the sand. For direct access to sand, consider the similarly sized (and priced) H10 Tindaya Hotel, which also has all-inclusive rates.

Hotel Royal Suite
Calle Valle de los Escobones, Urb Canada del Rio

This mid-range all-inclusive resort in Costa Calma has a decent range of facilities, suitable for families and couples. The 166 spacious suites are simply decorated, and come with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, plus balconies or terraces -- but no air-conditioning. There are four swimming pools, including two for children, a kids' club and a play area, and a tennis court. Nightly entertainment features a mini-disco. One buffet restaurant serves a variety of food on an all-inclusive basis, but some guests also like to visit the local restaurants nearby for more diversity. Expect to pay extra for Wi-Fi and use of the in-room safes. The biggest downside here is that the resort is a 17-minute walk to the beach. For a family-friendly hotel on the beachfront, compare rates with the Hotel Fuerteventura Playa

Kn Hotel Matas Blancas
Calle de La Punta Pesebre 6, Urb. Mirador del Río

Best Age Fuerteventura is an adult-only budget resort set on a hilltop on the outskirts of Fuerteventura's Costa Calma. While its location is quiet, there's not a great deal within walking distance and the nearest beach is a 10-minute drive. Rooms are simple but colorful and have balconies or terraces, some with distance sea views, though in-room Wi-Fi is pricey. The pool when not heated can feel very chilly, though the spa has decent facilities. Overall, it's all rather sedate and can feel a little isolated too, which accounts for the low rates. Families wanting closer beach proximity should pay more for the all-inclusive Hotel Fuerteventura Playa.
