Courtyard By Marriott Aguadilla
West Parade/Belt Road, Ramey Base

The family-friendly, mid-range Courtyard by Marriott is a converted military hospital located just a short drive from the Aguadilla’s airport. Its 134 rooms and suites are nice and big, with typical chain-hotel decor, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers. The kids’ pool has a fun aquatic playground with slides, but it gets packed with over-excited kids. Features include the small on-site spa, 24-hour on-site casino, on-site cafe, and all-day restaurant. The area of Aguadilla is known for its excellent surfing beaches (the closest is walkable), but there are few hotels and most guests stay here for proximity to the airport. Those seeking a slightly calmer hotel setting could try sister property, Punta Borinquen Resort, just down the road.

Parador El Faro
Carr. 107 km 2.1 Bo. Borinquen

Parador El Faro is a lower-middle-range option with 69 rooms set on lush manicured grounds in a somewhat removed Aguadilla location that’s a short drive from a beach, close to some restaurants, and handy to the airport -- which is why many stay here. Guests appreciate the cleanliness and the tranquil scenic setting, but dated decor, uncomfortable beds, maintenance issues, and a lack of phones or coffeemakers in rooms cause discontent. The two pools and the open-air Puerto Rican restaurant are welcome features, although food reviews are mixed. All in all, Parador El Faro is adequate for a quick stay, but not built for lingering on the premises. Travelers seeking something more modern could try Punta Borinquen Resort.

Punta Borinquen Resort
90 Wing Rd, Ramey Base

Set in a calm pocket of Aguadilla, a five-minute walk from the beach, the mid-range Punta Borinquen is a simple, small-scale resort reminiscent of a retro motel, with a pleasant outdoor pool and a relaxed vibe. Extensive renovations in 2017 gave the property a fresh, modern look that fits its coastal setting, as do its breezy open-air common areas. Fully renovated with simple, contemporary decor, its 53 rooms and suites are spotless, comfortable, and quiet, and feature good amenities such as free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and cable TV. Mini-fridges and coffeemakers are only available in suites, though. Waves serves good food and drinks at affordable prices in an outdoor space by the pool, and there is plenty of free parking on-site. This property suits travelers seeking a straightforward Aguadilla base and anyone requiring accommodation close to the airport. Those after more on-site features could try Courtyard by Marriott Aguadilla up the road, but it’s much more crowded.

Hotel Cielo Mar
84 Ave Montemar

This 72-room budget hotel on Puerto Rico's west coast is not for the chic, the romantic, or those looking for a beachfront stay (a drive is required to reach the sand). This is an older property with outdated decor to match. The owners put a chunk of money into the modern Ambience Lounge & Restaurant, and now need to focus on the rooms, starting with those eye-sore bedspreads. Until then, front-facing rooms with balconies -- some with ocean views (great at sunset) -- are considered the best of the lot. The family-friendly pool and large terrace has its share of weddings and therefore attracts mostly groups, many who are local. Keep in mind that the pool and bars close down pretty early.
