Hotel Salento Mirfran is a three-star property on the Ionian coast in the village of Torre San Giovanni, popular with Italian families taking beach vacations. The hotel is family owned and operated with a friendly and relaxed vibe. Rooms are spacious with (tiny) flat-screen TVs and balconies, though the sea views are a bit distant. There's an on-site restaurant and small garden for relaxing, but not much else in the way of features. For private beach access and a hot tub, compare rates at nearby L'Isola di Pazze. This property, however, does offer nice freebies such as breakfast and Wi-Fi.
Scene
A small hotel with a laid-back vibe
The hotel sits behind a rock-and-iron gate that leads to a private courtyard decorated with potted succulents and cacti. Wide steps lead to the lobby, where there’s a wooden reception desk and floral paintings hung on the wall. Mosaic tiles add dimension to the space. A staircase in the back of the lobby leads up to the guest rooms. Outside, there's an AstroTurf garden with cabana style tents and wicker furnishings where guests can relax, though the view of the street is less than inspiring.
Location
In the village of Torre San Giovanni, with quick access to the beach and nearby restaurants
Salento Mirfran has a prime location for guests who want quick access to the beach and restaurants but don't want to pay the extra cost for a hotel located directly on the water. The beach is less than a two-minute walk away. In the summer, the village of Torre San Giovanni bustles with bars, cafes, and restaurants, while in the low season many of them close. Traveling to either of the breathtaking towns of Gallipoli and Santa Maria di Leuca requires about a 30-minute drive.
Rooms
Spacious with balconies; some have sea views
Guest rooms are larger than average at Salento Mirfran, especially for a three-star property. Each is air-conditioned and has a flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, and tile floors. You can see the sea from front-facing guest rooms, but it's significantly in the distance -- behind the hotel courtyard, street, and residential properties. Private, furnished balconies are a nice touch, and some bathrooms have colorful tiled showers. The overall decor, however, is dated and bland; picture fake flowers, nearly-bare walls, and small bathrooms.
Features
Freebies include a limited breakfast buffet, parking, and Wi-Fi.
Most guests spend their stay at Salento Mirfran exploring the nearby beach and village, so there isn't much in the way of features. Rental bikes are available, and an on-site restaurant seats 30 and offers indoor and outdoor dining. There's a small bar in the lobby for cocktails and cold drinks, and a free breakfast buffet serving pastries and fruit. Wi-Fi and parking are also free. If you're looking for private beach access and a swimming pool, rates aren't much higher at the nearby L'Isola di Pazze, which has both.
