The 60-room Conchiglia Azzurra Hotel is located a short walk from the seaside town of Porto Cesareo; it is part of a strip of hotels along the inside of the “heel” of the Italian “boot.” A lovely beach is directly across the street and is home to a good beach bar with a variety of snacks and drinks. There is a spa with basic services and entertainment for kids, but there is a pesky fee for beach chairs and umbrellas. Rooms are basic and clean, though some guests note that windows are on the small side.
Scene
Seafront, basic hotel
The Conchiglia Azzurra Hotel is a basic, seafront hotel with a friendly, welcoming staff. The lobby is simple and bright -- it is the outdoor spaces of this hotel that are particularly noteworthy, including the beach bar and the restaurant with its outdoor terrace. Not fancy, but well kept, this is a relaxing pick chosen primarily for its close proximity to the beach.
Location
20-minute walk to Porto Cesareo
There is no public transportation providing a direct link between Porto Cesareo and this resort; however, the hotel does have free parking, and the walk is a relatively short 20 minutes. The larger hub of Lecce is a 40-minute bus ride from Porto Cesareo; with advance notice, the hotel can arrange for transportation from the bus station, as well as to and from the Brindisi and Bari airports (for a fee).
Rooms
Simple rooms decorated in peach and gold
Simple rooms are decorated in peach and gold and are furnished with white lacquered wood commodes and wicker chairs. Guests have remarked on multiple occasions on a few drawbacks of the rooms, including that in some cases, the only window is incorporated in the exterior door, forcing guests to choose between privacy and ventilation. Other guests have commented on the paucity of outlets in the rooms, and the fact that mosquitos are plentiful and mosquito netting absent. All rooms have air-conditioning (which is regulated by the management), small wall-mounted TVs, and stall showers; larger rooms have an outdoor balcony.
Features
A well-equipped beach bar, a restaurant, and spa
A comfortable beach pub incorporates wood decking, thatched parasols, and cushioned chairs in an intimate space adjacent to a small bar that serves a variety of snacks and beverages. A restaurant, mostly set indoors, also incorporates a small outdoor area; the offerings generally receive positive reviews, though some have noted that the menu may be repetitive. There is a small spa with a hot tub, a Turkish bath, and a sauna. There is a basic set of business amenities (answering and fax services) available to the business traveler.
