Scene
An older property with a laid back vibe and family-friendly amenities
The most economical of the three adjacent Pelican sister properties, the Plaza Pelicanos Club is an older resort that attracts a mix of families, couples, and groups who want a relaxing place to stay that won’t break the bank. There’s a good range of dining options and bars, and plenty of ways to keep the kids occupied. A designated Family Pool with a swim-up bar is tucked among the main hotel buildings, though lots of families head to the pool at the beach club across the street, which is the property’s biggest draw. Between the pool, another swim-up bar, a couple of eateries, and the beach itself, many guests spend most of their time at the resort as opposed to exploring. The stretch of Las Glorias Beach where the resort sits is rather small and can be a bit rough and murky. There are also lots of vendors lining the shore and camped out at the edge of the hotel’s property. Adult-centric amenities exist, too, like a sports bar with a karaoke room for those in search of evening entertainment.
Location
On Las Glorias Beach in the South Hotel Zone, halfway between the airport and downtown Puerto Vallarta
Plaza Pelicanos Club is a good middle ground for guests who want to be close to the airport, the beach, and downtown Puerto Vallarta. The hotel’s beach club sits directly on a small stretch of Las Glorias Beach in the South Hotel Zone section of Puerto Vallarta. Set on busy Highway 200, the city’s main road, the hotel is in a good location for exploring some of the city’s top sights. The immediately surrounding area is made up of mainly hotels and shops. Central Puerto Vallarta is a 10- to 15-minute drive to the south. That's where visitors will find lots of restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as the landmark Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church and the famous Malecon, the city’s lively oceanfront promenade, full of public art and food vendors. Licenciado Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport is an 11-minute drive away.
Rooms
Small rooms with simple decor and basic amenities
Choosing a room at Plaza Pelicanos Club Beach Resort is easy, because there’s only one room type at the property. All rooms are Standard Rooms. The only questions are whether guests want one king-size bed or two double beds and whether or not they want a patio (ground floor rooms have them, upper floors have no outdoor space). Decor is relatively dated and features polished marble floors and simple furnishings in a color palate of warm browns and neutrals. All rooms are outfitted with air-conditioning, electric safes, flat-screen or tube-style TVs, and coffeemakers -- but no mini-fridges or minibars. Wi-Fi costs extra in the rooms. Small marble bathrooms feature shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and a few simple toiletries. Some ground floor rooms have easy pool access.
