cafes and lively restaurants can be found. The 47-rooms range from tiny, dark Economy Rooms to larger doubles and triples, though all rooms are decorated in
vibrant colors with traditional Mexican touches. On-site features include a beautiful
central courtyard, a tiny rooftop pool, and the popular breakfast restaurant,
Fredy’s Tucan located on the first floor. Another intimate, boutique option in Puerto Vallarta could be the Vallarta Shores, which is also right on the beach.
Scene
A quaint, traditional Mexican hotel centered around a lovely courtyard
The Hotel Posada de Roger -- meaning Roger’s Inn -- is a small
family-owned boutique-style hotel in the heart of the Romantic Zone. In the
traditional Mexican style, the hotel is built around a sunny central courtyard, and it's decorated with bright colors. From the street, guests enter a small
brick archway with doors in swirls of cast iron, and rainbow-colored artwork and hanging plants continue the cheerful look.
The beautiful central courtyard features a lovely tiered fountain and several white
cast-iron cafe tables. The space is full of lush tropical plants including
a mango tree, palms, ferns, and
tropical flowers, which contrasts with the bright red-orange tile floor. Strings of lights draped above twinkle romantically in the evenings. All of the rooms face out toward the courtyard, and the louvered glass windows don’t do the best job of keeping out the noise, especially in peak season. Rooms are arranged over four floors, and travelers should note there's no elevator. Overall, the quaint property is brimming with character and
personality as is evident from all its decorative details. There are many pieces of original artwork hanging around the hotel, contributed by Mexican artists and muralists. Some pieces of artwork are even signed by Roger, the founder of the hotel. Two
bird cages hang on either side of the reception area, home to a parrot named
Burro and a couple of parakeets that are the hotel’s unofficial mascots. The staff is also praised for being welcoming and warm. Posada de Roger is popular with both Mexican families and
international tourists.
Location
In the heart of the vibrant Romantic Zone
Hotel Posada de Roger is located on a popular corridor of the Romantic Zone, a section of Old Town Puerto Vallarta. This neighborhood is known for it's quaint cobblestone streets, many sidewalk cafes and authentic Mexican restaurants and taco stands. The area by the hotel has several popular dining options as well as a few boutique shops and art galleries, making it an ideal location for exploring on foot. It's just a five-minute walk down to the beach and the Malecon, a bustling oceanfront promenade that often has live entertainment. Though the beach here is not the cleanest or most desirable, it's nice for a stroll. It's only about a 20-minute taxi ride from the airport.
Rooms
Vibrantly decorated, though some rooms and all bathrooms are small
Many of the hotel’s 47 rooms are small, but they're all colorful
and cute. Bright walls in colors like bold red, sunflower
yellow, and lime green are paired with colorful artwork depicting flowers or rural scenes.
Some new dressers and lighting fixtures freshen up some of the older furnishings. All rooms feature traditional
embroidered Mexican pillows and bed runners, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. (Mini-fridges can be brought in on request.) Exterior rooms are bright and sunny, and rooms in the front of the
building include a tiny balcony to take in the street scene (though
it’s barely big enough for a single chair).Economy Rooms are especially dark and small, with just a narrow walkway around the bed. There are a few Deluxe Rooms that are larger and also include sofas and coffeemakers. But throughout the guest rooms, the bathrooms can be very basic and tiny, and the shower stalls can feel cramped. Most of the bathrooms have new
tile, but other parts are ready to be updated. Another issue is noise: Many of the rooms that face onto the courtyard have louvered glass windows, which provide little barrier to sounds from the outside.
Features
A tiny pool and rooftop sundeck, a communal kitchen, and a popular breakfast restaurant
The Posada de Roger has a small, rectangular rooftop pool on the second level
of the hotel. Though it's quite tiny, it’s a nice place to cool off and great
for kids and adults alike. The pool is surrounded by a handful of lounge
chairs, including some with comfortable cushions, but only one umbrella for
shade. There’s not much space surrounding the pool so it can get crowded
quickly when big groups come through. An upper sundeck offers additional
seating, a few more lounge chairs surrounded by lots of green plants and
flowers. The top floor houses a common kitchen and dining room area, which offers great views of the surrounding streets. The kitchen offers two
large dining tables, a six-burner stove top, an oven, blender, microwave,
coffeemaker, toaster, a packed fridge, and basic items needed for cooking.Downstairs, connected to the hotel, Fredy’s Tucan Restaurant
is a very popular spot for breakfast and lunch. It’s a big destination for
Sunday brunch, when people often gather outside on the sidewalk, and there’s
often a long wait for a table. But waiting patrons can help themselves to self-serve coffee and water. The restaurant offers American
diner-style dishes, such as omelets and French toast pancakes, but a
variety of Mexican dishes grace the menu as well. The dining room is very colorful with lots of toucan images and tropical tablecloths around the bright space. Room
service from the restaurant is available.
