Bottom Line

Located on Rincon’s touristy Route 115, Rincon Inn is a five-minute drive to the area’s most popular beaches, restaurants, shops, and attractions. As a two-pearl hotel, the only real common amenity is a modest pool and sundeck. Fit and finish in each of the 14 rooms is old and dated. All feature mini-fridges, microwaves, and satellite TVs, though the units themselves are tube-style. The hotel (sometimes advertised as a hostel) offers some of the area’s cheapest accommodations and it looks and feels every bit the part. Much of the property -- including the exterior, decor, and mini-golf course -- is in need of updating and maintenance. For a bit more, Coconut Palms Inn provides cleaner, two-and-a-half-pearl accommodations on the beach.

Scene

No-frills motel with a hostel-like vibe

Like many of the budget hotels nearby, Rincon Inn features a classic, two-story motel layout with exterior hallways. The outside shows stark signs of age, including chipped paint, loose railings, and a general lack of attention to detail. Decor in the rooms and common areas is likewise dated and in desperate need of an update. Furniture is mismatched, fixtures are tarnished (but functional) and there’s an overall sense that management is maintaining the property at a bare minimum level. It's clear that most guests use the inn only as a cheap place to sleep while exploring the surrounding area during the day.

Location

On a busy, touristy thoroughfare, five minutes from “downtown” Rincon

Situated on Route 115 -- the bustling thoroughfare that runs through Rincon -- the property is within walking distance of dozens of bars, stores, markets, and local and chain restaurants. Lucky 13 BBQ is located in the same building and offers a menu of mostly barbecue and burgers. A five-minute drive north will take guests to downtown Rincon with additional attractions and dining options. The area’s beautiful public beach is only a three-minute walk from the rear of the property. Rincon’s famous lighthouse (Punta Higuero) and Playa Domes (one of the best surfing beaches on the island) are only 10 minutes north by car. nEugenio Maria De Hostos (MAZ) is the nearest airport -- only a 20-minute drive in light traffic. However, flights are far more limited than those through Aguadilla’s Rafael Hernandez Airport (BQN) which offers more international connections through San Juan International (SJU).

Rooms

Dark, dated rooms with mini-fridges and microwaves, but no Wi-Fi

The rooms -- like the exterior and common areas of the property -- are dated and in need of serious TLC. Every room is decorated differently, though there's not much to love about it, as decor includes faded artwork and mismatched furniture that bears a yard-sale vibe. In many cases, a dim bare bulb is the only working light source, leaving the rooms dark and uninviting. The hotel features only 14 rooms, but five total room categories. Entry-level Standard Single rooms are tiny with only a single bed and minimal furniture -- these are the most hostel-like of all options. Single and Double Rooms offer slightly more square footage, including a small seating and/or dining area. The hotel’s Suites and One-Bedroom Apartments offer substantially larger living quarters. The latter upgrades to a full kitchen. All rooms provide mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Tech amenities are limited to satellite TV service on old, tube-style televisions and there is no in-room Wi-Fi.Bathrooms are dated, but mostly functional. In many cases, fixtures are heavily worn, tiling can be mismatched, and grout is noticeably peeling around the shower. Generic bar soap and walk-in shower stalls are standard in every room category.

Features

A modest outdoor pool and a run-down mini-golf course

As a small, two-pearl property, the pool is Rincon Inn’s only noteworthy common amenity. It’s modest, though adequately sized given the hotel’s capacity. The surrounding pool deck offers several dozen lounge chairs. A themed, 18-hole mini-golf course is the only other common amenity. As with many of the other common areas, the course is minimally maintained. During our visit, we noted a significant number of leaves and branches littering the greens. Hours can also be unpredictable, and the space was inexplicably closed during our stay. The barbecue restaurant is part of the same building, but not owned by the hotel. Off-street parking is available in a large, dirt lot at the rear of the property. Free Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby.
