Cons
  • Isolated location; car required to get to nearby

  • No water-sports equipment for guests to use

  • Small fitness center and no spa on-site

Bottom Line

Although it is named after the laid-back surf town of Rincon, the Rincon Beach Resort is actually located in Añasco, along a long stretch of golden-sand beach that hugs the gentle waves of the Bay of Añasco. The beach is the man attraction for guests who chose this 112-room, mid-range resort, but they also have the option of watching the ocean from the huge free-form pool with a swim-up bar and hot tub. The rooms and villas are spacious, and many have terraces overlooking the sea, but the decor is dated and the location of the resort is isolated. Travelers looking for a cozier atmosphere might prefer the Blue Boy Inn in Rincon.

Scene

The lagoon-style pool with its swim-up bar and stretch of private beach are the hotel's main attractions.

With a huge parking lot, lots of concrete driveways, white
metal fences, and yellow curbs, the arrival at the Rincon Beach Resort feels
more office park than resort. The six-story, peach-hued Caribbean-Colonial
style building lacks the lush tropical landscaping, bubbling fountains, and
fresh-cut flowers one would expect at a Caribbean beach resort. From the porte-cochère, guests enter a two-story, open-air
lobby framed by columns and tall windows styled with billowy drapery. Oversized
dark wood sofas, benches, and chairs are finished with pale green cushions and paired
with white marble tables. The comfortable seating along with the mahogany lobby bar give
guests reason to linger, but hints of brilliant blue seen through the branches
of stretching Flamboyant trees draw guests to the highlight of the resort -- a
lagoon-style infinity pool that overlooks a quiet stretch of golden-sand beach. The pool offers a variety of areas for guests to settle in
and find their own place. A shallow end is attractive to small children while
the opposite end is popular with more active swimmers. In the middle, a swim-up
bar offers a serene spot to have a colorful frozen cocktail and watch the ocean from
beneath a palapa roof. Rows of white-strap lounge chairs paired with white
umbrellas encircle the pool and are arranged in two neat rows along a wooden
boardwalk that separates the pool area from the beach. The flat stretch of
golden sand, shaded by leaning palms, is ideal for walking or jogging and the small
waves mean the water is calm enough for a leisurely swim. Guests seeking
larger, surfing quality waves can drive to Rincon to beaches such as Domes,
Maria's, and Steps.

Location

Set back from Highway 115 in an isolated resort area that borders Almirante Beach, a stretch of golden sand along the Bay of Añasco on Puerto Rico’s west coast, a two-hour drive from Old San Juan

Set on a private stretch of beach, the Rincon Beach Resort delivers the oceanfront location but it is isolated from the restaurants and activity of popular Rincon. - Six-minute drive to Tres Hermosas Beach

  • 15-minute drive to Rincon
  • 17-minute drive to the Rincon Lighthouse
  • 20-minute drive to Domes Beach
  • 35-minute drive to Rafael Hernández Airport, Aguadilla
  • One-hour, 15-minute drive to Mercedita Airport, Ponce
  • One-hour, 30-minute drive to the Arecibo Observatory
  • Two-hour drive to Old San Juan
  • Two-hour drive to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport
  • Two-hour, 20-minute drive to El Yunque National Forest

Rooms

Spacious rooms and condominium-style villas with worn decor; many have private balconies overlooking the ocean and pool

The resort features multiple room categories, including Standard Rooms with one queen-size bed, Superior and Deluxe Rooms two queens or one king, Junior Suites with one king-size bed, and One- and Two-Bedroom Villas. Designed for families, the villas offer full
kitchens with white tile countertops and white appliances, separate dining
areas with tables that seat four, and living areas with sofa beds. Most rooms feature similar decor: peach-colored ceramic
tile floors, Caribbean Colonial style furniture finished in ebony or ivory, generic
tropical artwork, shuttered armoires, and accents such as painted ceramic fish
figurines and wrought-iron and rattan table lamps. Some units, such as the Standard Rooms, may have more dated bedding. None of the beds are inviting; most are covered
with thin, green and taupe striped bed throws and basic sheets and pillows. While the resort was updated in 2011, it still feels dated. In
many rooms, the furniture shows signs of wear and tear and the sofas are faded. It's worth upgrading to a room with a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean, as these are a highlight of a stay here. The rooms feature good-size bathrooms with single vanities and ample counter space for toiletries. The bathrooms are stocked with basic towels and toiletry sets; some of the showers feature accent tiles and oversized shower heads. Flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, irons and ironing
boards, and safes are included in all rooms and villas.

Features

Two restaurants, two bars, a huge lagoon-style pool, and a picturesque stretch of golden sand beach

The Rincon Beach Resort's main restaurant, Brasas, is a
popular dinner spot for locals as well as guests. It specializes in Caribbean
as well as traditional Puerto Rican food and serves everything from grilled pork
chops with guava rum sauce to mofongo with seafood. It's open for breakfast in addition to dinner, but not lunch. Most guests lunch at the Pelican Beachside Grill, located by the pool, which serves burgers, wraps, and fish
tacos. While there are not any other restaurants within walking distance of the
hotel, guests can drive to Rincon for several choices.
