Prices may be low, but the 233-room Radisson Ambassador Plaza Hotel & Casino in Condado is in dire need of a renovation: Gold and chrome fixtures in the lobby and casino scream "Vegas in the 80s," and the rooms, though clean, have dated decor and, in some, old tube TVs. The fitness center is adequate, the rooftop pool is small, and the beach is a block away. The Courtyard by Marriot Isla Verde has a beautiful beach on-site, so it's worth comparing rates.

In the heart of affluent Condado, a block from a busy beach
Once a booming area catering to foreign tourism, and then forgotten and somewhat sketchy, Condado became an affluent beachfront neighborhood after the remarkable rehabilitation carried out in the late 90s and early 2000s. Avenida Ashford is the main strip, where restaurants, upscale boutiques and casinos line the sidewalks.
You will have to take the bus to the main tourist attractions in Old San Juan, however, and the beach is busier than those east of Condado.
