Bottom Line

Although the property did not sustain significant damage during Hurricane Maria and is currently operational, **travelers should note that the island of Puerto Rico was significantly impacted by the storm in September 2017. **A 156-room, mid-range chain hotel set in the congested municipality of Bayamon, the Hyatt Place San Juan caters to local groups attending meetings at the hotel and business travelers, many visiting the nearby pharmaceutical companies. The hotel delivers all of the comforts expected from a Hyatt Place, including spacious rooms, free buffet breakfast, and a large lobby with a business center, bar, and multiple areas for meeting, but it lacks easy access to the ocean and the outdoor pool is within earshot of a busy highway. Those looking for a more resort-oriented experience should consider the slightly pricier Embassy Suites Dorado Del Mar or the Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar.

Scene

A dependable, amenity-rich hotel that's popular with local groups and business travelers

There's really no reason for tourists to come to Bayamon
unless they are looking for a dependable chain hotel for an overnight stop before
embarking on travels to other points of interest in Puerto Rico. Arriving
guests will find that they are sharing the hotel with business travelers and
local organizations holding meetings and competitions at the hotel, such as 4-H and school groups. After navigating the traffic in the busy municipality,
guests arrive at the hotel and are ushered into a vast, two-story lobby with enough
room and amenities to satisfy most travelers. The theme is cohesive, sticking
to a warm, neutral color palette with saddle leather sofas, granite coffee
tables, and wood floors, peppered with bright accent colors of lime green and
orange. At the center of the space is a two-sided bar. One side is a
traditional bar with a long row of stools and a giant flat-screen TV while the
other side is a 24-hour gallery where guests can purchase coffee, baked goods,
sandwiches, and toiletries. A business center is tucked away in a private nook
close to the front desk while the breakfast area is located in a bright space
at the opposite end of the lobby.Other areas easily accessed from the first floor are
conference rooms, an outdoor pool, and the fitness center, which seems to be
somewhat of an afterthought for a hotel this size. Guests looking for more
amenities can walk next door to the El Tropical Casino and an Applebee's restaurant or take a
cab to El Posento, a well-known spot that serves authentic Puerto Rican fare.

Rooms

Spacious rooms and suites with separate living areas, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges; some have kitchens

The hotel's 156 rooms are split into two basic categories.
The Standard Rooms feature either one king or two queen beds, while the more spacious Suites are set up
for extended stays with separate bedrooms and open areas that encompass small
kitchens, dining tables, and living areas. All of the rooms follow the same contemporary style found
throughout the hotel. The living areas feature L-shaped sofa beds finished in a neutral linen fabric and topped with accent pillows in bright
orange. The coordinating furniture in honey oak includes a work desk with an
ergonomic brown-leather chair, side tables stocked with cotton throw blankets, and a
platform beds with the hotel's trademarked pillow-top mattress, extra pillows,
and plush linens. Other amenities include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, single-serve coffeemakers, bottled water, mini-fridges, and armoire closets stocked
with irons, ironing boards, and safes.Bathrooms are also generous in size, styled with large white tiled showers or shower-tub combos, and freestanding vanities with plenty of
counter space. An arrangement of KenetMD toiletries sits on bright orange soap
trays and thick white towels are stacked on wall-mounted shelves. While the
rooms are comfortable, they lack scenic views, overlooking the busy highway or a
mountain of rock and greenery.

Features

A business center, meeting space, a bar, and a 24-hour gallery to purchase food, beverages, and forgotten items

The Hyatt Place San Juan Bayamon is well stocked with amenities suitable for business and leisure travelers and those checking in for on-site conferences. The lobby is grand central for guests, offering a business center, bar, a cafe-style gallery, and plenty of space for lounging and meeting. In addition, the hotel offers a small fitness center and an outdoor pool, although it lacks the scenic views travelers on vacation may demand.
