Hotel Savoy Palace – TonelliHotels

Hotel Savoy Palace is an aging property that dates back to 1960 and draws families and couples with its convenient location near the beach and all-inclusive rates. Its exterior is lovely, with an orange facade that's complemented by luscious green grounds filled with palm trees and potted flowers. Interiors, however, show their age, with simple, tired furniture and basic amenities. Common spaces are filled with a mix of contemporary and dated furniture. The lobby has glossy blue floors with modern white armchairs as well as frumpy and worn orange antique armchairs and couches. The bar areas have particularly tired items like wooden chairs with faded red cushions and blue kitschy floral booths and chairs. It’s difficult to nail down the style as there’s a number of different types of furniture like wicker chairs and even bamboo couches. The restaurant is a step above the rest of the hotel, with white and brown tablecloths and natural lighting from floor-to-ceiling windows, though the covered chairs seem to try too hard. Still, guests report staff is friendly, and even Mr. Tonelli himself, the owner, interacts with visitors. 

This property is set on a quiet residential street slightly east of Riva del Garda, though numerous shops and restaurants are within a 20-minute walk. Attractions like the Rocca fortress, Apponale Tower, and the Gallery of Natural Science can be reached in about 20 minutes on foot. For those who don’t wish to walk, there’s a bus stop that’s three minutes from the hotel, but the nearest train station near Mori is about a 20-minute drive. Despite its location outside of the city, there are some restaurants nearby and Pini Beach is a five-minute walk away. The nearby mountain, six minutes away on foot, provides a number of hiking trails. It’s an hour’s drive to Verona Airport. 

Guest rooms here are fairly simple, and while the decor is rather plain, upkeep is good. Rooms features a white and brown color scheme and have wooden floors. Some double beds are two twins pushed together, which may not be ideal for all. White headboards with tufted brown padding are paired with cream walls, white furniture, and brown curtains. All rooms have furnished balconies and some rooms on the upper floors offer partial views of the lake. Amenities include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and flat-screen TVs, though not all rooms have tea- and coffee-making facilities. Complaints of noise issues due to thin walls are common. Bathrooms have dated fixtures, small showers, bidets, old hairdryers, and basic toiletries. Though rooms are considered nonsmoking, ash trays are provided. 

Offering plenty of amenities, the hotel aims to please a diverse group of guests from young to old and singles to families. There’s a large outdoor heated pool with a hot tub, as well as a smaller heated indoor pool. The hotel also offers a sauna and a fitness area -- but this is a tiny space with only two cardio machines. Free yoga on the beach (mats provided) and hiking or walking tours are available, as are city bike rentals and free mountain bike tours during the summer. Guests can also borrow sports equipment. 

A number of amenities are particularly aimed at families, such as the free kids' club during the summer that provides activities for children. There’s also a playground and outdoor ping-pong. The hotel provides all-inclusive dining options, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. A free afternoon tea is offered and is followed by an adult happy hour. The piano bar provides drinks and live entertainment in the evenings, while a small pool snack bar services the pool in the summer. Other free amenities include Wi-Fi (though there have been complaints about it), parking, and a public computer. The hotel is pet-friendly.
