Bottom Line

There is little to find fault with at the sustainability-minded, upscale, 43-room Corona Dolomites Hotel. The building itself is well presented and the interiors are a mixture of contemporary smart and traditional cozy. Rooms are particularly modern, minimal, and well equipped, as is the spa and pool area. Mountain views can be enjoyed from many areas, though other hotels do obscure some of the views. An on-site restaurant and activities for kids make this a good spot for a family vacation. All-in-all it's a good pick in a convenient location a short walk from the ski lifts and the rates are more than reasonable.

Scene

Modern chalet-style hotel with plenty of traditional touches

From the outside, the Corona Dolomites Hotel shares many features you would expect from an Alpine-style chalet, only on a larger scale -- quaint fir-wood balconies are decorated with colorful flowerboxes and the whole property has as feeling of freshness and modernity while maintaining many traditional touches. The lobby is full of beautifully carved wood fixtures, from the ceiling to reception desk, and warm wood paneling and furnishings can be found throughout. The hotel attracts a mixture of families and couples, and depending on the season, either summer hikers or winter skiers.

Location

Set in the center of Andalo in Trentino mountains, a few minutes walk from ski lifts

The Corona Dolomites Hotel is located in the center of the popular resort of Andalo, a village in the Brenta Dolomites in Trentino in Northern Italy. The nearest city is Trento, about a 20-minute drive away, while the closet airport is Dolomiti, an hour away by car. Those here for the skiing will find the ski lifts a few minutes walk away. Venice is a two-and-a-half hours' drive away. Parking at the hotel is both free and plentiful.

Rooms

Smart, minimal, and contemporary rooms, many with mountain views

The Corona Dolomites Hotel has 43 rooms in total, all of which are decorated in a smart, minimal, and modern style with wooden floors and furnishings in brushed fir. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars (with free water), and free Wi-Fi. A hiking backpack for guests to borrow hangs in the closet. Clean, contemporary bathrooms have walk-in showers and high-end toiletries. Many rooms have furnished balconies or spacious decks with mountain views. All rooms are soundproofed and quiet. Some rooms are on the smaller side.

Features

Mountain views from pool, spa, and restaurant

The hotel has an indoor, ionized salt (so chlorine-free) pool that extends to the outside of the building; a fun indoor/outdoor hybrid. The outdoor area includes sun loungers set up on decking and a large manicured lawn, leading to a childrens' play area. A modern spa provides a range of treatments and various saunas and baths, much of it with mountain views. The restaurant also has stunning vistas, while a cozy reading room provides evening relaxation. A wine cellar is a nice touch and the hotel also focuses on family activities with an "Andalo for Family" program. Wi-Fi and Internet points are free as is outdoor parking and bike hire. The indoor garage is available on request and for a fee.
