Bottom Line

The three-pearl Rott Hotel was built in the 19th-century and is located just around the corner from the Astronomical Clock and Old Town Square. Free breakfast is served in the hotel's cellar and there's a modern Czech restaurant with terrace seating on the cobblestone street. The 94 classically styled rooms and one-bedroom suites have traditional furnishings, soaking tubs, and heated bathroom floors. Though in-room massages are available, there’s no spa and the tiny gym is ill-equipped. For travelers willing to pay a bit more, the Art Deco Imperial Hotel has more elegant rooms and a wellness center.

Scene

Historic building with a lovely atrium lobby and a glass elevator

The 19th-century built Rott Hotel still has it's historic Neo-Renaissance facade and frescoes by the late painted Mikolas Ales. The hotel name comes from the Rotts, a family who once ran the V.J. Rott hardware store in the building. Bathed in natural light, the lobby features a lovely atrium ceiling and beautiful glass elevator, plus archways, lamp posts, and contemporary chairs set around bistro tables. More modern elements include striking life-size sculptures from Michal Trpák’s “Faces” exhibit on display in the Nuance Restaurant and at the hotel's entrance. The hotel is aimed toward tourists, although meeting rooms also attract business travelers.

Location

In the center of Old Town, next door to the Hard Rock Cafe

The hotel is in Small Square, also known as "Male namesti," just a two-minute walk from the Prague Astronomical Clock and Old Town Square. This is a popular and sometimes noisy location that’s next door to the Hard Rock Cafe. Other restaurants, bars, and cafes, including a Starbucks, are nearby. The Charles Bridge, Jewish Quarter, and Lesser Town are also within a 10- to 15-minute walk. Travelers can reach the Prague Castle in 20 minutes on foot. Car transfers can be arranged from the train station, which is 10 minutes away. The Vaclav Havel Airport Prague is a 30-minute drive from the hotel. There's no parking on-site, but nearby public parking is available.

Rooms

Traditionally decorated rooms and suites with minibars and windows that (in some) overlook Prague Castle

The overall look in rooms is classical, thanks to traditional wooden furniture, striped or dotted fabrics, and sections of colored carpet. Beige-tiled bathrooms have heated floors, hairdryers, and showers or soaking tubs. All rooms have 32-inch flat-screen TVs, small safes, minibars, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, kettles or illy coffeemakers, bathrobes, and slippers. Soundproofing is decent, but rooms at the front of the hotel can be noisy due to the street. Most rooms have large windows, but rooms on the top floor have unappealing attic windows. Suites come with sitting areas and have views of Prague Castle. Flowers or champagne can be requested for an additional fee.

Features

Czech restaurant and bar, a breakfast lounge, front desk services, and a fitness center

The modern Nuance Restaurant has elegant indoor seating with a rotating art gallery on display, as well as an outdoor terrace adjacent to the street. It serves Czech and European cuisine and also features a lovely bar with an illuminated marble facade and a smoking lounge. The stone-vaulted basement with bland furnishings acts as the breakfast lounge, serving a free morning spread. Room service is available until late. The fitness center is tiny and lacks a treadmill, but it does have a stationary bicycle, elliptical machine, and free weights. Staff can also arrange in-room Thai massages. The hotel has computers and a printer in the lobby, in addition to providing currency exchange and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. There are three meeting rooms, including the breakfast room that can fit up to 80 people and two smaller rooms. Babysitting can be arranged for a fee.
